Top Gun Shipyard Recap 4/13-4/14/19

No rainouts this weekend at Shipyard, as nearly 40 teams made the trip to Mount Pleasant for a great weekend of baseball. In total, teams from 7 different states (Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia) were in the fields across 5 age groups for this National Youth Baseball Championships qualifier event. Here we recap some of the great games from this past weekend.

Virginia #6 Southside Crew posted a 2-0 day on Saturday with a 16-3 win over the Sun Devils (SC) and a 10-4 win over South Carolina #8 Titans Baseball and earned the top seed for Sunday. The Myrtle Beach Rays went 1-1 on Saturday, topping the Sun Devils 17-5 and falling 8-5 against Titans Baseball. In the semifinals on Sunday, Southside Crew notched a 9-1 win over the Sun Devils and Titans Baseball topped Myrtle Beach Rays 11-8. In the finals, Southside Crew finished off a 4-0 weekend with a 6-3 win over Titans Baseball.

North Carolina #6 SBA Americans went 2-0 on Saturday and earned the top seed for bracket play, topping #8 Carolina Red Sox - Jones 8-1 and Union Count Crush - Allen 12-1. The Red Sox scored an 11-0 win over Foundation Sports - Malally (GA) in their other pool play, while Foundation Sports edged past Crush - Allen 8-7 in their other pool play game. In the semifinals on Sunday, the SBA Americans notched a 13-6 win over Crush - Allen and Red Sox - Jones rolled to a 12-2 win over Foundation Sports - Malally. In the finals, Carolina Red Sox - Jones got out to a 13-3 lead through 1-1/2 innings, and held on for a 13-12 win over the SBA Americans.

It was a loaded 11u field at Shipyard this past weekend. North Carolina #7 Belmont Bandits went 1-1 in pool play, scoring a 3-2 win over the Ditch Chickens (GA) before falling 7-6 against South Carolina #1 Charleston Revolution - Whittle. This left the Bandits with the #4 seed for Sunday. The Revolution scored a 12-2 win over Chain Gang - Chambliss (GA) in their other pool play game and finished with the #2 seed for Sunday. NC #10 Mission Vipers Black went 1-1 on Saturday, scoring a 9-1 win over Chain Gang - Rowland (GA) before falling 10-2 against the Georgia Bandits. The Georgia Bandits also topped Chain Gang - Rowland 17-0 in pool play and earned the #1 seed for Sunday. Five Star DeMarini (FL), who is currently ranked 30th nationally in USSSA 11u Majors National Power Rankings, received the #2 seed for bracket play with a 12-3 win over Mission Vipers Gold and a 9-6 win over the Ditch Chickens.

In the #4/5 play-in game in the Gold bracket on Sunday, Mission Vipers Black notched an 8-5 win over the Belmont Bandits. In the semifinals, Five Star DeMarini scored a 7-4 win over the Charleston Revolution and the Georgia Bandits blanked Mission Vipers Black 5-0. In the finals, Five Star DeMarini finished off an impressive 4-0 weekend with a 9-3 win over the Georgia Bandits.

Team 24 Gamecocks - Latham (SC) earned the #1 seed in the Gold bracket with an 11-1 win over the Weston Wardogs (CT) and a 10-2 win over Bulls Bay Bandits (SC) in pool play. Hit Doctor (VA) scored the #2 seed with an 8-0 win over Foundation Sports - Smeal (GA) and a 10-4 win over Canes Baseball VA - Serrano. In the semifinals on Sunday, Team 24 rolled to a 16-1 win over Bulls Bay Bandits and Hit Doctor notched an 8-2 win over Canes - Serrano. In the finals, Hit Doctor finished off an undefeated weekend with a 5-1 win over Team 24 Gamecocks - Latham.

South Carolina #2 Chain Gang National went 1-1 on Saturday, scoring a 10-2 win over Foundation Sports - Mingin (GA) before falling 22-6 against SC #4 Team 24 Gamecocks - Brown. This left Chain Gang with the #4 seed for Sunday. Team 24 topped Foundation Sports - Mingin 15-1 in their other pool play game and scored the #2 seed for Sunday. The #1 seed went to North Carolina #7 Sanford Cobras, who topped Foundation Sports - Rodriguez (SC) 8-2 and the Bulls Bay Bandits (SC) 8-4 in pool play. In the #4/5 play-in game on Sunday, Chain Gang National rolled to a 15-2 win over Bulls Bay Bandits. In the #3/6 play-in game, Foundation Sports - Rodriguez blasted their way to a 15-5 win over Foundation Sports - Mingin. In the semifinals, Chain Gang National topped the Sanford Cobras 17-4 and Team 24 Gamecocks - Brown blanked Foundation Sports - Rodriguez 11-0. In the finals, Chain Gang National avenged their pool play loss with an 18-6 win over Team 24 Gamecocks - Brown to take home the 13u crown this weekend at Shipyard.
