USSSA Preview 3/24-3/25/18

There are a dozen or more ranked teams in action at the USSSA sites throughout the weekend this weekend, including three #1’s (9u Park Sharon, 11u SBA Canes – Ross, and 12u East Rowan) as well as a #2 (10u SBA Canes – Marconi). This should results in some shake ups in our rankings, and some excellent baseball this weekend. Here’s a quick preview of the weekend’s USSSA action.

Charlotte

8u

The Carolina Reds, Lincoln County River Rats, Elite 9, and East Rowan – Fisher will be in action in the 8 age group in Charlotte this weekend.

9u

#1 Park Sharon Nationals will face SBA Canes – Goodyear and the Mission Vipers in their pool play games on Saturday. This field also includes #7 SBA Canes – Simmons, who will face the Carolina Reds (SC) and Copperheads – Sigler in their pool play games, as well as #8 Piedmont Panthers, who will take on Copperheads – Sigler and ER – Smith in their two pool play games. With 3 top 10 teams in the field, this should be an exciting age group to keep an eye on this weekend.

10u

The 10u age group is divided into a 10 team American division and a 6 team National division.

American

There are two 5 team pools in the American division. The first pool consists of the Carolina Arsenal, Carolina Reds, Elite 9, Tega Cay Titans (SC), and Myers Park Rebels. The second pool consists of Battalion, CSA Chargers, Kannapolis Cannons, LKN Hurricanes, and L-town Lightning. With many of the top area teams playing in the National division or different age groups/tournaments, the 10u American division should be wide open.

National

There are 3 top 20 teams in the 10u field including #3 Mission Vipers Gold who will take on CBC and #19 East Rowan in their two pool play games. East Rowan will face #12 Carolina Havoc, who will be looking to bounce back this weekend, in their other pool play game. The Havoc will also face GRIT in pool play.

11u

 

#13 OTK Saints and 10u #2 SBA Canes – Marconi will be in the 11u field this weekend in Charlotte. OTK will take on CBC – Cunnigham and Elite 9 (SC) while SBA Canes – Marconi are currently scheduled for a single game against Elite 9 on Saturday evening.

12u

There are 15 teams in total in action in the 12u age group this weekend including #2 Minion#5 Park Sharon Nationals,  #14 SBA Canes – Mendez, an excellent Carolina Prime 2024 team, and 11u #1 SBA Canes – Ross. Minion will be in action on Sunday only, according to the currently published schedule. The nationals will take on Carolina Prime and SBA Canes – Mendez in what should both be great games. The Canes – Mendez will also take on Carolina Prime in their other pool play game. The Canes – Ross will face Upstate Select and Team 24 Gamecocks – Miller (SC) on Saturday.

13u

SBA Canes – Cruz, Mayhem Baseball, Stingrays, and Titans Select will play a 3 game round robin after which seeds #1 and 2 will play one another and seeds #3 and 4 will play one another.

 

Greensboro

8u

This will be a large, 10-team field in Greensboro this weekend. Leading the way will be #10 Summerfield Stars, who are kicking their spring season off this weekend. They’ll face the Carolina Impact and the NC Young Guns in their two pool play games. The NC Young Guns, who are 5-1 in USSSA play this spring and 13-1 overall, will also face the Carolina Curve in pool play.

9u

#6 Five Star Carolina – Hilton is the top ranked team in the 9u field this weekend in Greensboro. They’ll face the Carolina Impact and the Summerfield Stars, in what should be a great game. These two met once in the fall with Five Star coming out on top 12-4. The Stars will also face the Impact in their other pool play game.

10u

#10 Dirtbags Black will be the only ranked team in this field this weekend. They’ll take on the Carolina Red Sox – Jones and Proehlific Power in their pool games. GRIT should also be competitive this weekend and they’ll take on the Luckies and the Triad Thunder on Saturday.

11u

There are no top 20 teams in the 11u field in Greensboro this weekend. The Kernersville Bulldogs will be in action and will take on GRIT- Jones and Power Baseball on Saturday.

12u

In the Majors/AAA division, #1 East Rowan, #8 Majestic Greensboro, and 11u #10 Big Game 2025 will headline the field. East Rowan will face Big Game 2025 and Majestic Greensboro in their pool play games on Saturday. Big Game 2025 will also take on Spartans – Campbell, while Majestic will face Five Star Carolina – Smith on Saturday.

 

Morganton

8u

None of our top 10 are in the field, but this should be a competitive division. The Bears will bring a 14-4 USSSA record into this event and take on the Asheville Braves and Cherryville Baseball on Saturday. The Gtown Pirats (SC), who carry a 15-2 USSSA record, will also be in the field and will face the Asheville Braves – Frye and Lincoln County River Rats on Saturday.

9u

The Haywood Havoc will be the top team in the 9u field this week. They’ll take on the Venom Stars and Golden Spikes on Saturday. The Havoc are 28-1 in USSSA play as a 9u team and with another good weekend should find themselves in our top 20 next week.

10u

Elite Baseball are 10-1 in USSSA as they head into this event. They’ll take on the Haywood Havoc and RBA Heels Blue on Saturday. Athlete’s Lab Crushers Baseball should also be in the mix here this weekend and will face McDowell 10u and the Haywood Havoc on day 1.

11u

#16 Carolina Rams keep winning and keep climbing our top 20. They are 25-3 in USSSA play and will take on WCW Red and the AC Outlaws in pool play on Saturday. The McDowell Titans are 15-3 in USSSA play and will face RBA Heels Blue and the Statesville Sluggers on Saturday.

12u

None of our top 20 are in the field this weekend in Morganton. This should be a pretty wide open division with multiple teams including the RBA Heels Blue, Elite Baseball, the Carolina Brewers, and Smoke having a real shot to win this weekend. Of note, 11u Carolina Travelers will be playing up this weekend in the 12u age group.

13u

None of our top 20 13u teams are in the field in Morganton this weekend. It will be a 5 team field with Heat Baseball Black, Chimney Rock Reserve, Diamond Mine White, WCW, and the RBA Heels Blue all in the field.
