AAU Recap 4/21-4/22/18

It was another good weekend of baseball at the AAU sites around the state. In particular, the 10u AAA division in Oxford featured 4 top 20 teams and an all-Dirtbags final. Here’s a brief recap of the AAU games from this past weekend.

Clemmons

Hutters went 3-0 on Sunday, scoring a 6-3 win over Knockouts, a 12-2 win over Select Baseball, and a 13-5 win over Knockouts in the finals.

The Piedmont Pirates went 2-0 on Saturday with a 11-0 win over Knockouts and a 12-8 win over the Carolina Voodoo. 4G3 Training facility also went 2-0 in pool play with an 8-3 win over GBG NC and a 10-3 win over the Carolina Torque. On Sunday, the Voodoo topped the Torque 12-2 in one play-in game, while GBG NC beat the Knockouts 11-1 in the other play-in game. In the semifinals, the Pirates edged out GBG 5-4 while the 4G3 beat the Voodoo 10-5. In the finals, the Pirates outlasted 4G3 11-5 to take the 12u title.

#1 Carolina Threshers started their tournament off on the right foot going 2-0 in pool play with an 11-4 win over #9 Dirtbags East and a 12-1 win over the Granville Rays. Dirtbags East topped the HYAA Hawks 27-7 in their other pool play game. #4 Youngsville Phantoms went 2-0 on Saturday as well, notching an 18-0 win over D1 Performance and a 17-5 win over Garner Express. The NCDB Rivercats also went 2-0 in pool play, edging the Granville Rays 10-8 and scoring a 16-1 win over the HYAA Hawks. On Sunday, the Threshers scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to secure a 10-9 win over the Rivercats. This is the second 1-run, walk off win the Threshers have scored over the Rivercats in two weeks. Dirtbags East also scored a 1-run 11-10 win over the Phantoms in their semifinal. In the finals, the Threshers were able to get by the Dirtbags 12-9. Notably, the Rivercats scored their own 1-run victory over the Phantoms in the consolation final, scoring a 13-12 win.

Rise Lebron (VA) smashed their way through the 9 field this weekend, scoring a 20-7 win over the Virginia Squires and a 16-0 win over the OC Crushers on Saturday. #14 Dirtbags East also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 6-0 win over the North Raleigh Knights and a 9-8 win over the North Wake Warriors. The Hawks also went 2-0 in pool play with a 25-11 win over East Chatham Elite and a 12-2 win over the Carolina Tide. Extreme was also 2-0 on Saturday, notching a 15-3 win over the Tide and a 9-8 win over East Chatham Elite. On Sunday, the Hawks topped the Flash 11-1 in one play-in game, while the Warriors beat the Extreme 13-5 in the other play-in game. In the semifinals, Dirtbags East scored a 10-9 win over the Warriors, while Rise Lebron notched a 6-3 win over the Hawks. In the finals, Rise Lebron slugged their way to a 19-9 win over Dirtbags East.

AAA

In the loaded AAA field, #8 Dirtbags East scored a 3-2 win over #19 Youngsville Heat and an 8-3 win over #15 Wendell Knights, to finish 2-0 in pool play. #9 Dirtbags Black also went 2-0 in pool play with a 10-4 win over North Wake Elite and a 3-2 win over the Wendell Knights. The Heat scored a 7-2 win over the Elite to finish 1-1 in pool play. On Sunday, the Knights blanked the Elite 8-0 in the play-in game. In the semifinals, Dirtbags Black edged the Heat 5-3, while Dirtbags East rolled to a 14-4 win over the Knights. In the all-Dirtbags finals, it was East over Black 8-0. The Heat topped the Elite 8-7 in the consolation finals.

The NCDB Rivercats went 2-0 in pool play with a 13-3 win over the North Wake Shockwave and a 4-3 win over the Carolina Titans. Western Tidewater Rage Elite (VA) also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 9-1 win over the Roxboro Crusaders and a 9-2 win over the Chatham Phoenix. On Sunday, in the quarterfinals, the Phoenix edged the Shockwave 7-6, the Crusaders beat the Titans 13-5, while NCDB topped the Rawlings Prospects 9-4. In the semifinals, Rage Elite beat the Phoenix 9-4 and NCDB edged the Crusaders 3-1. In a great finals matchup, the Rage Elite won 3-2 on a walk-off homerun.

The Phoenix Elite went 2-0 on Saturday with a 7-4 win over North Wake Fungo and a 13-0 win over GBI. The New Bern Flames also went 2-0 in pool play, scoring a 19-1 win over Fungo and a 13-4 win over D1 Performance – Horner. On Sunday, in the quarterfinals, the Flames topped the North Wake River Hounds 20-0, Fungo topped the Cary Wildcats 18-4, and GBI beat D1 4-2. In the semifinals, the Phoenix topped GBI 10-0 while the Flames got by Fungo 12-8. In the finals, the Flames were able to roll to a 12-2 win over the Phoenix to take home the 12u title.

The North Wake Thunder went 2-0 in poo play with a 12-1 win over the Phoenix Elite and a 12-2 win over Zone Select 13. 4G3 went 1-1 in pool play, including an 11-0 win over GBI Express Black and a 9-7 loss to Phoenix Elite. On Sunday, Zone Select beat Phoenix Elite 9-0 in the play-in game. In the semifinals, 4G3 beat GBI Express 8-0, while Zone Select got by the Thunder 11-9. In the finals, 4G3 edged Zone Select 4-2.
