USSSA Weekend Recap 2/23-2/24/19

Despite all the rain through the region, two USSSA events were played in South Carolina this past weekend. Two sites, Lexington and Myrtle Beach, were in action with Lexington planned for a two-day event, and Myrtle Beach as a Sunday-only event. Unfortunately, not all Sunday games were able to be played in Lexington. Several ranked teams were in action and here we review some of the key results from this past weekend.

Lexington

9u/10u

Sunday games were cancelled in the 9u/10u age group in Lexington this past weekend. On Saturday, the 9u SC Stars went 2-0, scoring a 15-3 win over the Panthers (SC) and an 8-5 win over the Sandlapper Sharks (SC). The Sharks rolled to a 17-2 win over the Panthers in their other game on Saturday.

11u

The Tribe (SC) went 2-0 in pool play on Saturday, scoring an 8-0 win over the Gold Sox (SC) and a 12-2 win over the Carolina Bandits (SC). The Aiken Aces (SC) also faced off against the Gold Sox and the Bandits in pool play. The Aces topped the Gold Sox 5-1, but fell against the Bandits by the score of 9-3. In the semifinals on Sunday, the Tribe scored a 7-1 win over the Gold Sox while the Bandits edged past the Aces 7-6. In the finals, the Tribe completed a 4-0 weekend with a 6-4 win over the Bandits.

12u

The MC Bulldogs (GA) went 2-0 in pool play, scoring a 7-3 win over SCBA Sandlot (SC) and a 6-4 win over the Blue Dogs (SC). SCBA scored an 8-3 win over The Crew (SC) in their other pool play game, while the Blue Dogs notched a 16-1 win over Stars and Stripes - Cola (SC) in their other pool play game. The Carolina Titans (SC) went 1-1 in pool play, falling 14-8 against The Crew and rolling to a 9-1 win over Stars and Stripes. In the Gold bracket play-in games, SCBA topped Stars and Stripes 14-7 while the Carolina Titans edged the Crew 4-3. In the semifinals, SCBA notched a 3-1 win over the Blue Dogs and the Titans topped the MC Bulldogs 6-1. In the finals, SCBA Sandlot edged past the Titans 10-9.

13u

Like the 9u/10u age division, the 13u age group's games on Sunday were cancelled. On Saturday, SC #9 SCBA Pirates Blue was in action this past weekend and went 2-0 with a 6-3 win over the Tribe (SC) and a 5-4 win over Renegades Red. Stars and Stripes Sports also went 2-0 in pool play with a 4-3 over the Tribe and a 9-4 win over Renegades Red.

 

 

Myrtle Beach

9u/10u

The late afternoon games were cancelled on Sunday so not all teams in the 9u/19u age group completed two games on Sunday. The 9u Coastal Cyclones (NC) went 2-0 on Sunday, scoring a 12-4 win over the 9u NMB Braves (SC) and an 8-3 win over the 9u Rays 9 (SC). Rays 9 edged past the NMB Braves 9-8 in their other pool play game. The 10u Palmetto Blueclaws (SC) went 1-0 on Saturday with a 6-3 win over the 10u Elizabeth Express (NC), while the 10u Rays (SC) scored an 8-7 win over the East Coast Snipers - Willoughby (SC) in their only pool play game.

11u/12u

SC 11u #1 East Coast Snipers - Clark/Hill was in action this past weekend, playing against 12u competition. They went 1-1 on Sunday, scoring a 4-2 win over 12u Myrtle Beach Heat (SC) and falling 10-0 against SC 12u #5 Carolina Bomb Squad. The Bomb Squad scored a 9-2 win over the Makos to finish the weekend as the lone undefeated team in the 11u/12u age group. The Coastal Lugnuts (NC) went 1-1 on Sunday, falling 7-5 against the North Myrtle Beach Braves (SC) and scoring a 6-0 win over the 11u Makos (SC). The 11u Carolina Havoc (SC) also went 1-1 on Sunday, with a 7-3 win over the 11u East Coast Snipers - McCarter and a 5-3 loss against 11u Punishers (SC).
