7 top 10 teams in Virginia were in action across the 12u and 13u age group this past weekend in Richmond. In addition, teams from 5 different states made their way to Richmond to compete against some of the best competition in the Mid Atlantic. Here we recap a great weekend of baseball at the Triple Crown Capital City Invitational in Richmond.

The 12u age group featured 3 of our top 10 teams in Virginia, as well as teams from 5 different states (Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia). In pool A, the Mid-state Mavericks (PA) went 2-0 in pool play, notching a 5-0 win over RockIt Sports Blue and a 7-2 win over the Mid Atlantic Red Sox (MD). The Red Sox topped RockIt Blue 4-1 in their other pool play game. In pool B, VA #3 Tidewater Drillers Gray went 2-0 blanking Steel City Select 10-0 and edging Warstic Citius (NY) 3-2. Warstic Citius rolled to a 17-5 win over Steel City in their other pool play game. In pool C, the Pittsburgh Outlaws went 2-0 with a 5-4 win over VA #6 Huguenot Red Legs and a 12-10 win over Gambrills Athletics (MD). The Red Legs tied Gambrills 3-3 in their other pool play game. In pool D, the Olney Pirates (MD) went 2-0, scoring a 12-4 win over VA #2 Dirty South Bats Venom and a 9-1 win over the Mid Atlantic Show (NJ). The Venom scored a 17-0 win over the Show in their other pool play game. The top 4 seeds (Olney Pirates, Mid State Mavericks, Tidewater Drillers Gray, and the Pittsburgh Outlaws) started in the upper bracket, while seeds 5-12 had to start in the single elimination lower bracket.
In the opening round games in the lower bracket, the Huguenot Red Legs scored an 11-2 win over RockIt Sports Blue, Warstic Citius rolled to a 17-5 win over the Mid Atlantic Show, the Mid Atlantic Red Sox blanked Gambrills Athletics 3-0, and Dirty South Venom notched a 6-1 win over Steel City Select. In the 2nd round games in the lower bracket, the Red Legs blanked Warstic Citius 4-0 and the Mid Atlantic Red Sox topped Dirty South Venom 8-2. In the opening round games in the upper bracket, the Olney Pirates beat the Pittsburgh Outlaws 7-4 and the Mid State Mavericks blanked Tidewater Drillers Gray 4-0. In the 3rd round games in the lower bracket, the Red Legs rolled to a 10-4 win over the Pittsburgh Outlaws and Tidewater Drillers Gray notched an 11-6 win over the Mid Atlantic Red Sox. In the lower bracket 4th round game, Tidewater Drills Gray blasted their way to a 17-10 win over the Huguenot Red Legs to reach the final of the lower bracket where they faced off against the Mid State Mavericks, who fell 4-3 against the Olney Pirates in the final of the upper bracket. In the lower bracket final the Mid State Mavericks edged Drillers Gray 9-8 to reach the tournament final. In the finals, the Olney Pirates finished off an undefeated weekend with a 17-2 win over the Mid State Mavericks.

The Horns rolled to a 15-5 win over the Seminoles in their other pool play game. In pool B, the Frederick Hustlers went 2-0, edging RockIt Sports Blue 3-2 and blanking VA #9 Canes NoVA - Rowling 10-0. RockIt Sports Blue notched an 8-6 win over Canes NoVA in their other pool play game. In pool C, VA #2 Dirty South Virginia Venom went 2-0, notching an 8-1 win over the Mid Atlantic Show and a 6-5 win over Stars Baseball - Huller. The Stars blanked the Show 13-0 in their other pool play game. In pool D, Canes Baseball MD - Scott went 2-0 after a 12-2 win over Richmond Braves - Powers and an 18-0 win over Canes Mid Atlantic Black. Canes Mid Atlantic Black rolled to a 16-0 win over the Richmond Braves in their other pool play game. The top 4 seeds (Canes Baseball MD - Scott, Warstic Citius, Frederick Hustlers, and Dirty South Virginia Venom) started in the upper bracket, while seeds 5-12 had to start in the single elimination lower bracket.

In the 2nd round games in the lower bracket, Canes Mid Atlantic Black blasted their way to a 15-1 win over Stars Baseball - Huller and the Tidewater Horns notched an 8-3 win over RockIt Sports Blue. In the opening round games in the upper bracket, Canes Baseball MD - Scott knocked out a 9-3 win over Dirty South Virginia Venom while Warstic Citius edged the Frederick Hustlers 7-6. In the 3rd rounds games in the lower bracket, Dirty South Venom scored a 7-3 win over Canes Mid Atlantic Black and the Tidewater Horns scored a 10-7 win over the Frederick Hustlers. In the 4th round game in the lower bracket, Dirty South Venom used strong defense and pitching to secure a 7-3 win over the Tidewater Horns and reach another showdown game against Canes - Scott in the lower bracket final, after Canes - Scott fell 6-5 against Warstic Citius in the upper bracket final. In the lower bracket final, the Canes again came out on top of the Venom, this time with a 1-run 11-10 win. In the finals, Warstic Citius blasted out a 12-7 win over Canes - Scott to take home the 13u title in Richmond.
