Rain washed out Saturday play in Virginia, so the Dirtbags contingent who made the trip to Richmond were left with a one-day event on Sunday. All three Dirtbags teams faced off against excellent competition, and none of the North Carolina Dirtbags teams were able to qualify for the 4-team bracket play competition. Here we recap the results for the North Carolina teams in action in Richmond this past weekend.

#6 Dirtbags East made the trip up to Richmond, VA for the Capital City Classic this past weekend, but didn’t have the weekend go as hoped. Saturday was a washout due to the rain, which made for a potentially long day on Sunday. Matched up against Evoshield Seminoles – Fletcher (VA) in game 1 of pool play, the Dirtbags got up 2-0 through two innings but couldn’t muster much else offensively, as the Seminoles scored 5 in the third and 2 in the fourth on their way to a 9-2 win. In game 2 of pool play, the Dirtbags faced off against Virginia Stars – Camp. Much like game 1, the Dirtbags couldn’t put together consistent offense as they got down 11-0 through 3 innings, and ended up losing 11-1. The 0-2 pool play performance left the Dirtbags out of bracket play. In bracket play, RockIt Sports Blue (VA) topped Team Vinci (VA) 7-6 in one semifinal, while the Seminoles blanked Invaders Baseball (VA) 6-0 in the other semifinal. In the finals, RockIt Sports Blue was down 6-1 in the bottom of the 6th inning but battled back to score 6 runs including a walk-off home run to win the finals 7-6.

Game 2 for the Dirtbags did not go as hoped, as they ran into the Dirty South Bats Virginia Venom who blasted their way to a 16-1 win over the Dirtbags. In bracket play, the Mid Atlantic Red Sox topped Tri State Arsenal National 9-1 and the Olney Pirates defeated the Virginia Venom 12-2.
