Triple Crown Capital City Classic Preview

Triple Crown Sports comes to Richmond, VA this weekend. While this won’t be the major draw for North Carolina teams, there are a handful of highly ranked North Carolina teams making the trek up for the weekend. Here we highlight the North Carolina teams in actions this weekend in Richmond.

#6 Dirtbags East has played some of their best baseball of late and looks to have things on the right track this spring. They’re 13-4 this spring, and 34-11-1 overall as a 10u team. They’ll take on Evoshield Seminoles – Fletcher and Virginia Stars – Camp in their pool play games. The Seminoles are 6-1 this spring and 19-5-2 overall as a 10u team, while the Stars are 5-2 this spring, and 26-10-1 overall as a 10u team.

Dirtbags Black will be in action this weekend in Richmond. They were 9-6-1 in the fall, and 1-3 against 12u competition this spring. They’ll face the The Dirty South Bats Virginia Venom and Huguenot Red Legs (VA) in their pool play games. The Venom are one of the best 11u teams in Virgina and have an overall record of 22-4-1 as an 11u team. The Red Legs also happen to be one of the best teams in Virginia and carry and 8-2 record this spring as well as a 31-4-1 record overall as an 11u team.

Dirtbags Platinum will be making their debut in Richmond this weekend. This is a new team in the Dirtbags organization, coached by Dirtbags alum Greg Holt. This should be one of the most competitive teams in their entire youth organization so it will be interesting to follow their results as they progress through the spring. They’ll get pool play started against Rockit Sports Blue (VA) and Mid Atlantic Pirates (VA). Rockit Sports Blue is off to a 3-0 start this spring and are 11-3 overall as a 13u team. The Mid Atlantic Pirates were 12-2 in the fall, including a runner-up finish at the Top Gun Winter World Series during which they scored wins over our #2 East Coast Clippers and #6 NCDB Rivercats.
