Around the State Recap (Perfect Game/USSSA/NCGameOn) 10/12-10/13/19

There were a number of games between ranked teams this past weekend at the NCGameOn and USSSA sites this past weekend. In addition, there was a huge 13u Perfect Game Super 25 qualifier event in Kannapolis that saw 8 of our top 20 teams in action. In the end, rain shortened many events and subverted our chance to see some great games. Here we recap the weekend of games at the Perfect Game, USSSA, and NCGameOn sites this past weekend.

At the NCGameOn event in Clemmons, our #4 team, the GBC Prospects went 2-0 on Saturday with wins over the Diamond Kings and Spartans - Davidson. #6 DC Vipers also went 2-0 with wins over New Market Baseball and Carolina Rockies - Spillman. In the Gold bracket semifinals on Sunday, the Vipers notched a 14-10 win over Carolina Rockies - Bullard and the Prospects blanked Spartans - Davidson 17-0. In the finals, the GBC Prospects finished off a 4-0 weekend with a 14-4 win over the DC Vipers.

At the USSSA event in Asheville this past weekend, Diamond Mine and Mountain Xplosion went 2-0 on Saturday. On Sunday, #4 seed Dirty Birds scored a 13-6 win over GBC South Carolina Heat in the play-in game. In the semifinals, the Pineville Pythons blasted their way to a 21-9 win over Diamond Mine while the Dirty Birds took out Mountain Xplosion with an 11-5 win. In the finals, the Dirty Birds finished off a 3-0 Sunday with an 18-12 win over the Pythons. In Greensboro this past weekend, the Carolina Hitmen went 2-0 on Saturday with a 12-4 win over the Diamond Kings and a 7-5 win over the Triad Warriors. In the semifinals on Sunday, the Warriors topped the Diamond Kings 13-9 and the Hitmen notched a 20-5 win over Big Cats Baseball - Tatum. In the finals, Triad Warriors got their revenge on the Hitmen with a 15-8 win. In Charlotte this past weekend, 9u #2 SBA Futures played up in the 10u age group and went 2-0 on Saturday with a 14-8 win over the Lincoln County River Rats and a 17-5 win over Mission Vipers - Worrell.

At the NCGameOn event in Clemmons, our #19 team, the Davidson Crush went 4-0 for the weekend to take home the 9u title. They notched wins over Carolina Rockies Purple and Heat - Nichols. On Sunday, the Crush defeated Carolina Rockies Purple 12-2 in the semifinals and defeated Heat - Nichols 14-6 in the finals.

At the USSSA event in Asheville this past weekend, two teams from South Carolina - the Upstate Reds and G-town Pirates - both went 2-0 on Saturday. In the semifinals on Sunday, the G-town Pirates scored a 9-1 win over Athletes Lab - Vogel while the Asheville Braves notched an 8-4 win over the Upstate Reds. In the finals, the Pirates finished off a 4-0 weekend with a 13-5 win over the Asheville Braves. In Greensboro this past weekend, Triad Cardinals Baseball and Proehlific Power both went 2-0 on Saturday to lead the way into bracket play. In the semifinals on Sunday, Proehlific Power scored a 17-16 win over Carolina Rockies - Jarrell and Triad Cardinals Baseball notched a 9-1 win over the YC Nationals. In the finals, Triad Cardinals Baseball finished off a 4-0 weekend with an 11-4 win over Proehlific Power. In Charlotte this past weekend, the Lincoln County River Rats went 1-1 with a 14-11 win over the SBA Americans in addition to their loss to the 9u SBA Futures. The SBA Americans won their other pool play 6-5 over the Carolina Reds (SC). Sunday was rained out, unfortunately.

At the NCGameOn event in Oxford, the Burlington Black Sox finished the weekend 4-0 to take home the 10u title. On Saturday they notched wins over the North Wake Rampage and the Gate City Gators. On Sunday, the Black Sox notched a 16-5 win over the Gate City Gators in the semifinals and an 8-7 win over the Virginia Squires in the finals.

At the USSSA event in Asheville this past weekend, 3 teams - the Roberson RAMblers, Haywood Havoc, and Canes Baseball NC - Wiggins - all finished 2-0 on Saturday. In the semifinals on Sunday, the RAMblers topped Full Throttle 9-6 and Canes - Wiggins edged the Haywood Havoc 4-3. In the finals, the Roberson RAMblers finished off a 4-0 weekend with a 3-2 win over Canes - Wiggins. In Charlotte, both the NC Stars and SBA - Callahan went 1-0-1, tying each other 8-8 and both defeating Elite 9 (SC). 11u #3 SBA Nationals and #10 SBA Americans both went 2-0 playing up in the 12u age group this past weekend. The Nationals notched a 16-5 win over On Deck - Weddington and a 12-8 win over the Tega Cay Titans (SC) and the SBA Americans scored an 18-1 win over On Deck - Weddington and a 15-8 win over Athletes Lab. Sunday was rained out in Charlotte.

At the NCGameOn event in Clemmons, #11 Carolina Rockies - Stanton went 2-0 on Saturday with an 11-3 win over the HYAA Hawks and an 18-3 win over the Venom Stars. #16 Summerfield Stars also went 2-0 with an 18-3 win over Triad Cardinals - Harris and a 15-3 win over the Kernersville Cyclones. In the Gold bracket semifinals on Sunday, Rockies - Stanton defeated the HYAA Hawks 12-2 and the Summerfield Stars edged the Kernersville Cyclones 3-2. In the finals, the Stars pulled off a 7-4 win over Carolina Rockies - Stanton to take home the 11u title. In Oxford, DiStefano's Bear Claws went 4-0 for the weekend in this double round-robin event. They notched two wins over both the HSA Roadrunners and Durham Blues - Maloney to finish undefeated for the weekend.

At the USSSA event in Asheville this past weekend, PRO Prodigy Black (SC) was dominant all weekend going 4-0 overall and taking home the title, outscoring their opponents a combined 51-7 across 4 games. In Charlotte, #15 CBC Baseball Club went 2-0 with a 16-4 win over the SBA Americans and an 11-6 win over the Tega Cay Titans. As noted above, Sunday was rained out in Charlotte.

At the NCGameOn event in Oxford, the Alamance Diamondbacks finished 4-0 for the weekend in this double round-robin event. They notched two wins over both the Diablos and Mid-Atlantic Orioles - Fulton to finish undefeated for the weekend.

14 teams faced off at the Perfect Game Super Qualifier this past weekend in Kannapolis. Among those 14 teams were 8 of our top 20 teams in North Carolina including #2 Mission Vipers Gold, #5 Concord Athletics - Barbee, #6 Five Star Carolina Champions, #7 NC Saints, #8 Dirtbags Legends, #17 Carolina Rockies Gold, #19 North Wake Shockwave, and #20 WNC Five Star. Only 8 teams made the Championship bracket for Sunday. In pool play, Five Star Carolina Champions went 2-0 with a 7-1 win over the Carolina Astros and a 10-2 win over the North Wake Shockwave. Concord Athletics - Barbee also went 2-0 with a 10-5 win over Mission Vipers Black and an 8-3 win over the NC Saints. The Saints topped the Kernersville Bulldogs 12-0 in their other pool play game which was good enough to earn them the #6 seed in bracket play. WNC Five Star went 2-0 as well in pool play with a 15-2 win over Richmond Braves American (VA) and an 11-0 win over Mission Vipers Gold. CBA Copperheads Black and Carolina Rockies both also qualified for the bracket by going 1-1 in pool play. In the first round of bracket play, Dirtbags Legends edged Copperheads Black 4-3, Concord Athletics blanked the Saints 2-0, and Five Star Carolina Champions notched a 9-6 win over the Carolina Astros. Five Star Champions defeated the Concord Athletics 5-0 in the semifinal, however no other bracket play games were able to be completed due to rain.

At the USSSA event in Charlotte, the NC Stars went 2-0 on Saturday with a 9-5 win over Ultimate Performance and a 12-4 win over Carolina Rockies Black. The South Charlotte Braves went 1-0-1 with a 3-3 tie against the SBA Senators and an 8-0 win over Carolina Rockies Black. Sunday was rained out in Charlotte, however. 13u #1 SBA Futures played up in the 14u age group and went 2-0 with a 12-0 win over the Concord Athletics and a 9-6 win over 2024 On Deck O's Black.

At the NCGameOn event in Clemmons, GBC went 2-0 on Saturday with a 10-0 win over the Rowan Rattlers and an 11-3 win over the Lumberjacks. The Carolina Bombers bounced back from a 1-1 performance in pool play on Saturday to defeat the Stokes Sox 12-2 in the semifinals on Sunday. Unfortunately, the finals were rained out and unable to be completed.
