AAU Recap 5/5-5/6/18

There was some exciting action this weekend in Clemmons and Oxford. In particular, the 8u age group in Clemmons featured 3 top 15 teams, while the 12u open division in Oxford 4 teams in the top 15. Take a look at our recap of the weekend’s games.

8u

#8 Carolina Vandals opened up Saturday with a 12-5 win over #10 East Rowan 7u and a 15-0 win over the Easton Foothills Gators. East Rowan also fell 12-11 to SW Colts on Saturday. #14 Spartans – Allen went 2-0 on Saturday with an 8-7 win over the Venom Stars and a 17-2 win over the Carolina Spinners. In bracket play, East Rowan 7u topped the Spinners 10-6 and the Colts beat the Venom Stars 13-7 in the play-in games. In the semifinals, the Vandals edged the Colts 6-3 while Spartans – Allen was able to sneak past East Rowan 7u 13-12. In the finals, the Vandals took home the title with a tight 10-6 win over Spartans – Allen, in a great game between two top 15 teams.

The Davidson County Rippers went 2-0 in pool play with a 10-2 win over SBA Canes – Callahan and a 15-6 win over the Venom Stars. The Luckies also went 2-0 in pool play with a 12-0 win over GRIND and a 16-2 win over Copperheads – Duke. In the play-in games, Canes – Callahan scored a 6-3 win over GRIND while the Venom Stars defeated Copperheads – Duke 9-5. In the semifinals, the Rippers notched a 4-2 win over Canes – Callahan while the Luckies beat the Venom Stars 7-2. In the finals, the Rippers completed a 4-0 weekend with a 16-3 win over the Luckies.

The L-town Lightning went 2-0 on Saturday with a 16-4 win over the Venom Stars and an 11-4 win over Spartans – Triplett. The Bulldogs also went 2-0 in pool play, scoring a 17-9 win over the Colts and a 17-0 win over the Spartans. In Gold bracket play, Equip topped the Bulldogs 10-6 while the Lightning beat the Carolina Bullfrogs 7-2. In the finals, the Lightning got past Equip by the score of 6-4.

10u #6 Dirtbags Black played up in the 11u age group and went 2-0 on Saturday with a 6-5 win over East Rowan and a 6-1 win over Hutters. The Stanly County Titans also went 2-0 in pool play with a 18-7 win over Copperheads – Rowland and an 11-1 win over Colts – Chappell. In the play-in games, the Copperheads beat East Rowan 13-1 and Colts – Chappell beat Hutters 17-7. In the semifinals, the Titans beat Copperheads 10-3 while the Colts topped the Dirtbags 13-4. In the finals, the Titans beat the Colts 10-4 to finish 4-0 for the weekend.

The Piedmont Pirates went 2-0 on Saturday with a 4-3 win over the Carolina Red Sox and a 10-2 win over Power Baseball. GBC – NC was also 2-0 in pool play, scoring a 6-3 win over Sandlot Baseball and a 9-0 win over the Carolina Voodoo. Sandlot baseball topped the Voodoo 17-10 in their other pool play game. In the play-in games, Sandlot topped the Red Sox 9-3, Power Baseball beat the NCBA Royals 6-2, and the Pirates beat the Voodoo 12-7, In the semifinals, Sandlot beat GBC – NC 9-5 and the Pirates topped Power Baseball 10-5. In the finals, the Pirates blanked Sandlot Baseball 5-0 to complete the undefeated weekend.

The Dirtbagz topped the Clayton RailRoaders 14-9 on Sunday.

The Carolina Flash scored two wins on Saturday including a 25-10 win over the Carolina Tide and a 30-8 win over the North Raleigh Knights. The Knockouts also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 11-6 win over the Tide and a 16-1 win over the Virginia Squires. In the play-in game, the Tide beat the Knights 33-2. In the semifinals, the Flash beat the Squires 16-8 and the Tide beat the Knockouts 21-10. In the finals, the Flash were able to quiet the Tide’s bats and score a 5-1 win.

The Carolina Tide went 2-0 on Saturday with a 10-8 win over the Carolina Outlaws and a 12-4 win over the Wendell Sluggers. Phoenix Elite also went 2-0 with a 14-6 win over the Riptide and an 8-7 win over the Carolina Outlaws. On Sunday, the Outlaws took out the Fuquay Titans 23-4 and beat the Carolina Tide 5-1. The Phoenix Elite beat the Riptide 14-6 in their only game on Sunday. No score is reported for a potential Outlaws-Phoenix Elite finals, so perhaps that game was rained out? Readers, feel free to let us know.

The Roxboro Crusaders went 2-0 on Saturday with an 18-5 win over State Line Pride and an 8-3 win over the Chatham Phoenix. The Carolina Outlaws also went 2-0 in pool play with an 8-3 win over the Yellow Jackets and a 13-5 win over the Carolina Generals. The OC Crushers went 1-1 in pool play with a 6-5 win over the HYAA Hawks and a 7-6 loss to the Triangle Sports Hawks. In the play-in games, the Crushers topped the Phoenix Elite 25-7 and the Yellow Jackets beat the HYAA Hawks 7-4. In the semifinals, the Crushers beat the Crusaders 4-1 while the Yellow Jackets topped the Carolina Outlaws 6-2. In the finals, the OC Crushers edged the Yellow Jackets 6-5 to take home the 11u crown.

#6 Majestic Greensboro started their weekend with a 1-1 Saturday, scoring a 4-3 win over #9 Sandhills Heat and a 7-3 loss to #11 Carolina Rattlers. The Heat were defeated 9-8 by the #13 Carolina Thunder in their other pool play game, while the Rattlers dropped a 9-7 game against the New Bern Flames in their other pool play game. The Carolina Thunder scored a 12-4 win over Archers in their other pool play game. In the play-in games, the Heat topped the Rattlers 7-4 and the Archers beat the Flames 9-6. In the semifinals, Majestic Greensboro topped the Heat 6-4 while the Archers edged the Thunder 6-5. In the finals, Archers and Majestic Greensboro appear to have ended in a 9-9 tie after Majestic scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie it.

The Youngsville Intimidators scored two wins in pool play including a 12-3 win over the West Raleigh Warriors and a 14-0 win over the Rox City Bombers. Purpose Driven also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 19-0 win over MVP Black and a 9-7 win over Heavy Hitters. The CBC Blue Sox also went 2-0 in pool play with a 9-2 win over MVP Black and a 10-6 win over the West Raleigh Warriors. In the play-in games, Heavy Hitters topped the Rox City Bombers 14-5 and Purpose Driven beat MVP Black 6-4. In the semifinals, the Intimidators took out the Heavy Hitters  9-2 while Purpose Driven notched a 15-5 win over the CBC Blue Sox. In the finals, Purpose Driven was able to knock out an 11-7 win over the Intimidators.
