AAU Recap 5/26-5/27/18

There was only one AAU site in action this Memorial Weekend with several ranked teams in the fields across the three age groups. The Carolina Vandals continued their strong play with a 4-0 weekend and Five Star Carolina – Smith proved they deserve consideration amongst the state’s best teams in the 12u age group. #5 Carolina Vandals went 2-0 on Saturday with an 11-0 win over the Easton Foothills Gators and a 10-5 win over the Davidson All Stars. The SW Colts also went 2-0 in pool play with a 13-3 win over Copperheads – Beekley and a 17-1 win over the Pilot Mountain Dirtbags. Coul-Oak Diesel was also 2-0 in pool play, scoring a 10-9 win over Copperheads – Beekley and a 7-4 win over the Dirtbags. In the bracket play play-in games, Coul-Oak topped the Dirtbags 11-1 and the Copperheads beat the Davidson All Stars 11-5. In the semifinals, the Vandals scored an 11-5 win over Coul-Oak and the Colts beat the Copperheads 14-0. In the finals, the Vandals were able to score a 9-6 win over the Colts in a battle of unbeaten teams.

#7 Majestic Greensboro scored two wins in pool play with a 12-7 win over the Diamond Deacons and a 14-4 win over the SW Colts. Five Star Carolina – Smith also went 2-0 on Saturday with an 18-0 win over the Rawlings Stars and a 14-0 win over Hutters. 4G3 training was undefeated in pool play as well, notching an 11-2 win over the Camel City Bombers and a 10-3 win over the Colts. Power Baseball went 2-0 on Saturday with an 11-7 win over Select Baseball and a 13-3 win over Proehlific Power. In the play-in games, Power Baseball beat Select Gold 7-3 and Majestic Greensboro beat the Diamond Deacons 3-0. In the semifinals, Five Star scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to walk off with a 7-6 win over Majestic while 4G3 came back from a 5-0 deficit to take a 6-5 win. In the finals, Five Star Carolina – Smith completed their 4-0 weekend with a 9-4 win over 4G3.

#9 Carolina Havoc – Clonch went 2-0 in pool play with a 9-8 win over the Diamond Deacons and a 9-6 win over King Kryptonite. The Deacons notched a 19-3 win over the Carolina Aces in their other pool play game, which was enough to secure them a rematch against the Havoc in the final of this one-day event. In the finals, the Havoc rolled to an 11-0 win over the Deacons.
