AAU Recap 4/14-4/15/18

There was lots of good action at the AAU sites this past weekend with multiple top 10 and top 20 teams in action across all age groups. For the most part, the ranked teams held serve, with some getting some good work against older age groups. We’ve posted a brief recap of the weekend’s games.

Previously ranked Spartans – Allen went 1-1 on Saturday with a 14-4 win over Copperheads – Beekley and a 7-5 loss to the SW Colts. The Colts finished 2-0 in this one-day event with a 13-5 win over the Copperheads in their other pool play game. The Carolina Spinners also went 2-0 with a 14-4 win over the Triad Warriors and a 12-2 win over the Foothills Bandits on Saturday.

#9 SW Colts went 2-0 on Saturday with a 15-0 win over GRIND and a 7-6 win over the Carolina Combat. The Pfafftown Raiders also went 2-0 in pool play, scoring an 11-1 win over Copperheads – Duke and a 14-4 win over the Carolina Red Sox – Haynes. On Sunday, the Pfafftown Raiders topped the Carolina Combat 5-2 in one semifinal, while the Colts edged Red Sox – Haynes 4-3 in the other semifinal. In the finals, the Colts topped the Raiders for the second time this weekend, this time by the score of 12-1.

9u #12 Carolina Red Sox – Jones went 1-1 in pool play playing up, scoring a 15-4 win over the Pilot Mountain Dirtbags in addition to a 5-3 loss to the DC Vipers. The Vipers also went 1-1 with a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Patriots in addition to their win over the Red Sox. The Patriots went 2-0 on Saturday with a 12-2 win over the Carolina Spinners in addition to their win over the Vipers. Luckies – Taylor earned the top seed with a 11-3 win over the Colts and a 10-0 win over the Carolina Spinners. On Sunday, the Patriots topped the Colts 15-0 in their quarterfinal, while the Spinners beat the Vipers 8-7 in their quarterfinal. In the other quarterfinal match ups, it was Red Sox – Jones over the Dirtbags 15-6. In the semifinals, the Red Sox beat the Luckies 13-5 while the Patriots edged the Spinners 10-9. In the finals, the Patriots were able to get past the Red Sox by the score of 15-5.

The Stanly County Titans went 3-0 this past weekend with an 8-1 win over Colts – Chappell and a 9-4 win over SBA Canes 2025 on Saturday followed by an 8-4 win over Colts – Chappell on Sunday. Dirtbags Camo was 2-0 on Saturday with a 9-4 win over Spartans – Hutchens and a 16-0 win over SBA Canes 2025.

11u #4 Five Star Carolina – Neyra played up this past weekend and went 2-0 on Saturday with a 12-0 win over Sandlot Baseball and a 10-4 win over Select Silver on Saturday. PBC went 1-1 on Saturday with a 16-10 win over the SW Colts and a 12-11 loss to the Carolina Red Sox. The Red Sox scored a 9-7 win over Hutters in their other pool play game. In the semifinals on Sunday, PBC scored a 4-2 win over Five Star while the Red Sox again topped Hutters, this time by the score of 7-4. In the finals, PBC was able to complete their 4-1 weekend with an 8-2 win over the Red Sox.

The Carolina Thunder were 2-0 on Saturday with a 14-4 win over D1 Performance and a 14-5 win over the OC Crushers. The Carolina Flash also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 13-9 win over DiStefano’s Bear Claws and a 15-12 win over D1 Performance. On Sunday, the Flash topped Western Tidewater (VA) 3-2 in one semifinal and the Thunder beat the Bear Claws 4-2 in the other semifinal to reach the finals. In the finals, the Thunder were able to pull out a 9-7 win over the Flash to finish 4-0 for the weekend.

The Carolina Armor Blue went 2-0 on Saturday with a 15-4 win over the HYAA Hawks and a 9-8 win over the Phoenix Elite. The Southside Panthers (VA) also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 19-0 win over the Carolina Armor Red and a 12-8 win over D1 Performance. On Sunday, the Armor Blue topped the Phoenix again 6-3 and the Carolina Outlaws blasted the Wendell Sluggers 19-1 in the play0in games. In the semifinals, the Armor Blue topped the Panthers 7-4 while the Carolina Tide edged past the Outlaws 5-4. In the finals, Carolina Armor Blue completed a 5-0 weekend with a 14-4 win over the Carolina Tide.

The Alamance Angels went 2-0 on Saturday with an 11-1 win over the Carolina Outlaws and a 20-1 win over D1 Performance. The OC Crushers were also 2-0 with a 10-0 win over the Carolina Generals and a 9-1 win over the Carolina Outlaws. On Sunday in the semifinals, the Outlaws defeated the Crushers 6-1 while the Angels topped D1 Performance 14-10. In the finals, the Anglers again rolled over the Outlaws, this time by the score of 15-0 to complete their undefeated 4-0 weekend.

#9 Majestic Greensboro was in action this weekend and started their tournament with a 2-0 Saturday including a 14-3 win over Phoenix Elite and a 12-5 win over Zone Select – Wilson. D1 Performance – Horner was also 2-0 on Saturday with a 7-6 win over the Cary Wildcats and a 4-0 win over Zone Select. On Sunday, Majestic scored a 10-5 win over Phoenix Elite in one semifinal while Zone Select enacted revenge on D1 with a 10-5 win to reach the finals. In the finals, Majestic finished the 4-0 weekend with a 15-0 win over Zone Select.

13u #19 OC Crushers played up in the 14u division and went 3-1, losing 8-3 in the semifinals on Sunday to eventual champion MVP Athletics Black. Along the way, they scored a 13-3 win over Crusaders for Christ, a 7-6 win over the Carolina Angels, and a 12-5 win over Crusaders for Christ.

#11 Dirtbags East went 3-0 this weekend, blasting their way to a 16-2 win over the Carolina Wood Ducks, a 19-1 win over the Carteret County Patriots, and a 12-4 win over the Carolina Wood Ducks.
