The spring season continues to ramp up, and there were a ton of teams in action across 4 AAU sites this weekend. Some of the best teams in the state were playing and there was some excellent baseball played this past weekend. Here we recap this past weekend’s AAU action.
Clemmons

9u #9 SW Colts got their season started this weekend in Clemmons. On Saturday, they edged #20 Diamond Deacons 6-4 and topped the Carolina Crush 15-4 to finish 2-0 in pool play. The Deacons were able to beat the Knockouts to finish 1-1 in pool play. On Sunday, the Colts again topped the Crush while the Deacons blanked DiSteafano’s Bear Claws 8-0 to set up a finals rematch of the top ranked teams in this field. In the finals, the Colts again proved their worth with a 14-6 win over the Deacons.

#12 Dirtbags Black opened their spring with a successful weekend in Clemmons. On Saturday, they went 2-0 with a 12-2 win over the Knockouts and an 18-0 win over the Phoenix Elite. On Sunday, they topped the Diamond Deacons 9-1 in their semifinal game and blasted the Carolina Bullfrogs 12-2 in the finals to take the 10u crown in Clemmons this weekend.

East Rowan opened pool play going 2-0 with a 13-11 win over the Statesville Sluggers and a 12-5 win over the Knockouts. Hutters also went 2-0 with a 21-1 win over Dirtbags Gold and a 21-1 over the Knockouts. On Sunday, the Knockouts opened up bracket play with a 9-6 win over the Statesville Sluggers to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals, the Knockouts edged Hutters 5-4 to reach the finals. In the other semifinal, East Rowan edged past Dirtbags Gold 6-5. In the finals, the Knockouts got revenge on East Rowan with an 8-7 win to complete an exceptional rebound performance on Sunday.

#10 Sandhills Heat opened pool play with a 17-4 win over the Knockouts and a 16-3 win over the Piedmont Pirates to go 2-0 on Saturday. On Sunday, they beat PBC 7-2 to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals, the Heat beat Select 12u 5-1, while the Piedmont Pirates topped Big Game Sluggers 8-1 to reach the finals. In the finals, the Heat outlasted the Pirates 9-6 to finish 5-0 for the weekend and win the title in Clemmons.

The Kinston Bomb Squad went 3-0 in this one-day event with a 17-2 win over the Wayne County Ripperz, a 17-9 win over the Carteret County Patriots, and a 12-2 win over the Ripperz in the finals.

SBA Canes – Callahan opened pool play going 2-0 on Saturday with an 11-4 win over the Bulldogs and a 15-0 win over LKN Hurricanes – Phillips. SBA Canes LKN – Rinaman also went 2-0 in pool play scoring a 3-2 win over the Hurricanes – Phillips and a 14-8 win over the Bulldogs. In the semifinals on Sunday, the Canes LKN – Rinaman topped Hurricanes – Phillips 12-4 while Canes – Callahan edged the Bulldogs 10-9. In the finals, Canes – Callahan were able to outlast Canes LKN – Rinaman 5-4.
Oxford

The 9u age group was divided into an Open division and a AA division. In the open division, #7 NCDB Rivercats went 2-0 in pool play with a 17-8 win over the Carolina Thunder and a 15-4 win over the NW Warriors. Smash Baseball also went 2-0 in pool play with a 11-0 win over the Hawks and a 15-3 win over the NW Warriors. On Sunday, the Rivercats edged the Hawks 6-5 in one semifinal while Smash edged the Thunder 4-3 in the other semifinal. In the finals, Smash Baseball blanked the Rivercats 3-0 to take home the 9u Open division title.
In the AA division, the Carolina Flash went 2-0 in pool play with a 7-5 win over Extreme and a 17-9 win over the Orange County Crushers. On Sunday, the Flash rolled by the Crushers 13-3 in one semifinal while East Chatham Elite topped Extreme 6-4 in the other semifinal. In the final, the Flash outlasted East Chatham Elite 8-4.

The Roxboro Crusaders went 2-0 in pool play with a 22-o win over the Carolina Generals and a 4-2 win over Dirtbags Camo on Saturday. The NW Shockwave also went 2-0 with a 17-2 win over Dirtbags EC and a 15-9 win over Dirtbags Camo. The Dirt Devils also went 2-0 in pool play with a 12-2 win over the Burlington Yellow Jackets and a 14-1 win over the Zebulon Cougars. In the play-in games on Sunday, the Dirt Devils topped the Cougars 8-4 while the Shockwave scored a 10-1 win over the Yellow Jackets. In the semifinals, the Crusaders edged the Shockwave 5-4 while the Dirt Devils rolled over the Riptide 13-5. In the finals, the Crusaders scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th to tie it, and 1 in the bottom of the 6th to sneak out a 4-3 win against the Dirt Devils and take home the 11u title in Oxford.

The Phoenix Elite went 4-0 this weekend in Oxford with a 8-1 win over the Orange County Crushers and a 13-11 win over the Cary Wildcats on Saturday. They followed that up with a 16-1 win over the Cary Wildcats and a 7-6 win over the Crushers on Sunday.
