AAU Recap 10/28-10/29/17

Rain cut short the weekend for all teams in Oxford as play was cancelled for Sunday for all age groups. Nevertheless, there were still some interesting results on Saturday on Oxford and Sunday play in Clemmons. Here’s a recap of this weekend’s tournament games.

 

Clemmons

12u

All games were able to be completed this weekend in Clemmons, although the 12u age group was the only age group in competition this weekend in Clemmons. 5 Star Carolina – Smith finished pool play as the top seed with a 9-0 win over Select 12u and a 5-3 win over PBC. 4G3 Training Facility earned the #2 seed for bracket play with an 8-3 in over Hutters and a 12-4 win over PBC. The Carolina Voodoo also went undefeated in pool play, beating Select 12u 16-2 and Hutters 8-6 on Saturday. In bracket play, the Voodoo beat Select 12u 8-4 before falling to 4G3 Training Facility 12-4 in the semifinals. PBC beat Hutters 14-3 before being beaten by 5 Star Carolina – Smith 7-3 in the semifinals. In the finals, it was 5 Star Carolina – Smith over 4G3 Training Facility 7-1 to win the championship and finish 4-0 for the weekend.

Oxford

The Granville Rays went 2-0 this weekend with wins over Garner Express (13-4) and the Southside Panthers (11-10). Garner Express went 1-1 with a 20-8 win over the Virginia Squires in addition to their loss to the Rays. The Squires also finished 1-1 with a win over the Southside Panthers (15-13), who finished 0-2 for the weekend.

Both the South Granville Red Sox and the HYAA Hawks finished 2-0 for the weekend. The Red Sox beat D1 Performance 23-8 and the Carolina Flash 14-10, while the Hawks topped D1 Performance, who finished 0-2 this weekend, 14-4 and the Rampage 14-6. The Rampage finished 1-1 this weekend with a 16-12 win over the Carolina Tide in addition to their loss to the Hawks. The Carolina Flash also finished 1-1, scoring a 14-10 win over the Carolina Tide, who finished 0-2 this weekend.

Perhaps the two top teams in this field, #15 NCDB Rivercats and #14 FV Wildcats met on Saturday, and it was the FV Wildcats edging out the Rivercats 7-4 in a highly competitive game. The Wildcats finished 2-0 for the weekend with a 16-1 win over D1 Performance in addition to their win over the Rivercats. NCDB finished 1-1, notching a 13-3 win over CBC Blue Sox in their other pool play game on Saturday. The Southside Panthers (VA) finished 2-0 this weekend with wins over the CBC Blue Sox (9-8) and D1 Performance (10-2), who both finished 0-2 this weekend.

The TPA Nationals finished 2-0 this weekend with blowouts wins over the Carolina Pirates (14-5) and the VA Squires (17-4), as did the Durham Blues, who beat the Carolina Outlaws 10-2 and MVP Athletics Black 18-2. Purpose Driven Baseball also finished 2-0 this weekend and had a 14-4 win over the Carolina Braves and a 11-0 win over Heavy Hitters. Zone Select also went 2-0 with wins over MVP Athletics Black (14-6), who went 0-2, and the Carolina Outlaws (18-16), who also finished 0-2. D1 Performance also went 2-0, beating Heavy Hitters by the score of 9-6, and topping the Carolina Braves (9-7). The VA Squires finished 1-1 on Saturday, beating the Carolina Pirates 15-9 in addition to their loss to the Nationals.

The Carolina Thunder were the only undefeated team in the 12u age group this weekend, beating D1 Performance Orange 15-0, and the Youngsville Punishers 8-6 on Saturday. The Punishers finished 1-1 with a win over NCDB Rivercats 11u (10-5) in addition to their loss to the Thunder. NCDB 11u also finished 1-1 on Saturday with a win over the Carolina Rattlers 10-3.

MVP Black finished as the lone undefeated team this weekend, going 2-o with wins over the CBC Blue Sox (16-8) and the Southside Panthers (8-7). The Blue Sox went 1-1 with a win over the NCDB Rivercats 12u 6-2. The Panthers finished 0-2 with an 8-4 loss to D1 Performance Blue in addition to their loss to MVP Black. The 12u Rivercats also went 1-1 playing up an age group this weekend, scoring a 10-8 win over the HYAA Hawks. The Granville Crushers also went 1-1 this weekend with a 4-3 win over D1 Performance Blue (who went 1-1 on Saturday), and 2-1 loss to the HYAA Hawks, who also went 1-1 this weekend.
