AAU Preview 3/17-3/18/18

With Mooresville and Kinston sites in action in addition to the Clemmons and Oxford sites, there will be a lot of teams in action in AAU tournaments across the state. There will be a handful of ranked teams at the various sites so there should be some excellent, competitive baseball being played this weekend. Here’s a brief preview of this weekend’s AAU action.

Clemmons

9u

There will be a 5-team field in the 9u age group in Clemmons. #9 SW Colts will be in action this weekend in Clemmons and will take on #20 Diamond Deacons and the Carolina Crush in their two pool play games on Saturday. The Deacons will also take on the Knockouts in their other pool play game.

10u

The 10u age group consists of a 7-team field headlined by #12 Dirtbags Black. The Dirtbags will take on the Knockouts and the Phoenix Elite in their two pool play games on Saturday. Although there are no other ranked teams in the field, there are some quality teams such as the Carolina Bullfrogs and Big Cats who could do some damage this weekend.

11u

None of our top 20 teams are in the 11u field this weekend in Clemmons, but it should still be quite competitive. It’s a 5-team age group with East Rowan, Statesville Sluggers, Dirtbags Gold, Knockouts, and Hutters. On Saturday, East Rowan will take on the Sluggers and the Knockouts while Dirtbags Gold will face the Sluggers and Hutters. The Knockouts will also face Hutters in their other pool play game.

12u

The 12u age group is a 8-team division with #10 Sandhills Heat the only ranked team in the field. They’ll be the favorite going in and they’ll face the Knockouts and the Piedmont Pirates in their two pool play games on Saturday.

 

Kinston

10u

The Kinston Bomb Squad, Wayne County Ripperz, and Cartert County Patriots will face off in a 1 day tournament in Kinston.

 

Mooresville

9u

AAU has added a new Mooresville site this year. This weekend, there will be 4 teams in the 9u age group. SBA Canes – Callahan will take on Bulldogs and LKN Hurricanes – Phillips, and SBA Canes LKN – Rinaman will also take on the LKN Hurricanes and the Bulldogs on Saturday.

 

Oxford

9u

The 9u age group is divided into an 5-team open division and a 4-team AA division. In the Open division, #7 NCDB Rivercats will see their first action of the spring. They’ll take on the Carolina Thunder and NW Warriors in their two pool play games. Smash Baseball is also in the Open field this weekend and will take on the Hawks and NW Warriors in their two games. In the AA division, Extreme will take on the Carolina Flash and East Chatham Elite and the Orange County Crushers will also take on the Flash and East Chatham in their pool play games on Saturday.

11u

The 11u age group is a 10 team field. One team to keep an eye on will be the North Wake Shockwave. They’ve been right on the edge of our top 20 for sometime and will have their chance to show their worth this weekend. They’ll take on Dirtbags EC and Dirtbags Camo in their two pool play games on Saturday. Dirtbags EC will also take on the Riptide while Dirtbags Camo will face the Roxboro Crusaders on Saturday.

12u

In the 12u age group, the Phoenix Elite, Orange County Crushers, and Cary Wildcats will all face off in a two day, double round robin format tournament.
