The Perfect Game Coastal Select Championship took place this past weekend in Charlotte. This event saw some of the best matchups in the state in the early spring season. The 11u field was absolutely loaded and we got to see some outstanding top 10 and top 5 match ups already. Here we recap the weekend of games at this PG Charlotte event.

In this 3-team field, 5 Star Carolina Elite earned the top seed for Sunday with wins over both SBA Stars - Goodrum and Team 24 Black (SC). In the play-in semifinal on Sunday, the SBA Stars edged Team 24 10-9 to reach the finals. In the finals, 5 Star finished off a 3-0 weekend with a 9-1 win over the SBA Stars.

The #9 team in North Carolina, Mission Baseball - Smith, was the only team to finish pool play 2-0, scoring a 9-6 win over Dry Pond Black and a 10-2 win over the Aldie Senators (VA). #6 Carolina Cardinals finished 1-1 in pool play, scoring a 10-1 win over Team 24 Black - Ardis and falling 5-3 against #13 Carolina Revolution. The Revolution fell 9-1 against 5 Star Carolina - Secrist in their other pool play game. In the quarterfinal games on Sunday, the Revolution rolled to a 16-1 win over the Aldie Senators, the Cardinals topped Team 24 10-2, and 5 Star - Secrist notched an 11-7 win over Dry Pond Black. In the semifinals, the Revolution edged top-seeded Mission - Smith 5-4, and the Cardinals outlasted 5 Star - Secrist 18-11. In the finals, the Cardinals were able to hold on against the Revolution to score a 7-6 win.

This was, perhaps, the best field in this event with 8 ranked teams from North Carolina and 2 from South Carolina. In this 14-team field in Charlotte, 4 teams finished pool play with 2-0 records. This included North Carolina #1 SBA Futures, #2 Dirtbags Black, #15 5 Star Carolina Shockers, and 5 Star Carolina - Neyra. There were several top-10 match ups in pool play, including #1 SBA Futures and #2 Dirtbags Black both defeating #4 Canes Baseball NC - Pirro, and #6 Rawlings Prospects NC - Piscorik notching a 3-2 win over #8 Carolina Rockies - Sullivan. In the quarterfinals, #3 SBA Nationals took out top-seeded SBA Futures 5-2, Rockies - Sullivan edged the 5 Star Shockers 5-3, Dirtbags Black defeated Rawlings - Piscorik 7-2, and Athletes Lab - Vogel scored a 7-3 win over 5 Star Carolina - Neyra. In the semifinals, the SBA Nationals blanked Rockies - Sullivan 2-0 and Dirtbags Black scored an 8-0 shut out win over Athletes Lab. In the finals, Dirtbags Black put up 3 runs in the first inning and held on for a 3-2 win over the SBA Nationals.

The 12u age group consisted of 7 teams, including 5 ranked teams in North Carolina and South Carolina's top team. North Carolina #11 Canes Baseball NC - Wiggins and #17 Dirtbags Camo both went 2-0 on Saturday with both teams highlighting pool play with wins over #19 LKN Hurricanes. In the quarterfinals, 5 Star Carolina - Queler topped #20 Park Sharon Nationals - Garcia 3-2, South Carolina #1 Team 24 Black rolled to an 8-0 win over the LKN Hurricanes, and Dirtbags Camo edged #22 MVP Athletics 6-5. In the semifinals, Canes - Wiggins scored an 8-4 win over 5 Star - Queler and Team 24 defeated Dirtbags Camo by the same score - 8-4. In the finals, the Canes got out to a 9-6 lead through innings and held on for an 11-10 win over Team 24.

The 13u age group saw the debut of what might end up as the best team in this age group in North Carolina in Canes Baseball NC - Eason. And while it was a bit of an uneven weekend for the Canes, they impressed in the first event, finishing 4-0 and taking home the title. On Saturday, the Canes defeated Sandhills Stingrays - Norris 3-1 and the 5 Star Carolina Patriots 15-2 to earn the top seed for Sunday. The #2 seed went to #13 Dirtbags East, who scored an impressive 11-1 win over #4 Mission Baseball Gold, and a 9-5 win over #17 Luckies Platinum. On Sunday, The Luckies defeated the Patriots 8-3 to reach the semifinals against the Canes. The Luckies raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but couldn't hold on as the Canes rallied late to score a 7-5 win. In the other semifinal, the Dirtbags rolled to a 9-1 win over #18 Five Star Heat. In an absolutely great finals game, the Dirtbags fell behind 2-1 heading into the top half of the 7th inning, but were able to plate 2 runs to take a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 7th inning. The Canes responded, however, and scored two of their own to notch a walk-off 4-3 win over Dirtbags East.
