There were some big game across the state in USSSA play this past weekend. Perhaps none bigger than a #1 vs #2 match up in the 9u age group as both Park Sharon Nationals and SBA Canes – Simmons reached the finals in the 10u division in Charlotte. Here’s a recap of the USSSA action from this past weekend.

#3 Lake Norman Vipers were in action this weekend and faced off against the Tega Cay Titans (SC) and the Cherryville Bulldogs in pool play. In their opening pool play game, the Vipers were stymied offensively and fell to the Titans 13-3. They were able to bounce back with a 15-4 win over Cherryville Baseball in their second game. The loss marked the Vipers’ first loss of the spring. Tega Cay took out Elite 9 (SC) 20-0 and Team 24 Gamecocks (SC) 13-12 in their other two games this weekend. The MARA Spartans also went 3-0 this weekend with a 9-7 win over the Weddington Wrecking Crew, a 16-1 win over Elite 9, and an 11-2 win over Weddington.

SBA Canes – Goodyear went 2-0 on Saturday with a 10-5 win over the Mission Vipers and a 12-1 win over Ripstix Baseball. The Vipers bounced back from the loss to score a 20-0 win over CBC in pool play. In bracket play, the Canes took out CBC 9-1 while the Mission Vipers edged Ripstix 11-10. In the finals, the Vipers were able to get revenge on the Canes, scoring their own 10-5 win.

One Day
In the one-day event, the MARA Bolts took out the Weddington Blue Ice 16-4 and the Weddington Red Fire 13-7. The Red Fire were able to score a 13-6 win over Myers Park Rebels in their other game. In the only other game that was able to be played, the Myers Park Rebels scored a 9-8 win over the Blue Ice.
Two Day
9u #1 Park Sharon Nationals, 9u #2 SBA Canes – Simmons, and 9u #7 Carolina Arsenal all played up in the 10u division this weekend. Park Sharon went 2-0 in pool play with a 5-4 win over the L-Town Lightning and a 5-3 win over 10u #10 Mission Vipers Gold. The Canes – Simmons fell to the Arsenal 9-6 but topped Ultimate Performance 19-0. The Arsenal topped the 10u SBA Canes 14-2 in their other pool play game. 10u #8 Carolina Havoc went 2-0 in pool play with a 13-5 win over CBC and an 11-1 win over the SBA Canes. For Bracket play, L-town, the Carolina Havoc, Mission Vipers Gold and CBC were placed in one bracket, while the Arsenal, Canes – Simmons, Park Sharon, SBA Canes, and Ultimate Performance were placed in the other bracket. In the first bracket, the Lightning edged out the Havoc 8-7 while the Vipers Gold topped CBC 10-3 to reach the finals. In the finals, the Vipers rolled over L-town 12-1. In the other bracket, the Canes – Simmons got revenge on the Arsenal with a 10-5 win, while Park Sharon rolled over the SBA Canes 10-2. In the finals in a match up of our top two 9u teams, #1 Park Sharon was able to get the better of #2 SBA Canes – Simmons with a 6-2 win.

#20 Carolina Astros went 2-2 this weekend with a 10-2 win over RBA White, a 9-7 loss to the Vision Bandits, a 9-6 loss to CBC – Cunningham, and a 8-7 win over the Vision Bandits Red. CBC – Cunningham went 4-0 this weekend with an 8-7 win over the Vision Bandits Red, a 13-0 win over the Carolina Thunder, and a 10-2 win over Ultimate Performance in addition to their win over the Astros. The Vision Bandits went 3-1 this weekend with a 12-6 loss to RBA white in addition to their win over the Astros on Saturday, and a 6-4 win over the Carolina Cubs and a 12-2 win over SBA Canes – Red on Sunday.

The Kings Mountain Storm went 1-1 on Saturday with a 10-6 win over Titans Select and a 7-3 loss to Stars and Stripes. Stars and Stripes went 4-0 for the weekend, not participating in bracket play on Sunday. They notched a 14-5 win over SBA Grizzlies on Saturday, and followed that up with a 13-3 win over the MARA Mystics and a 3-1 win over CBC – Pavone on Sunday. Weddington Baseball went 2-0 on Saturday with an 18-0 win over Upstate Select (SC) and an 8-3 win over the On Deck O’s Black. SBA Canes – Ritter also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 17-2 win over Upstate Select and a 13-5 win over the On Deck O’s Black. In bracket play, the KM Storm took out Weddington Baseball 6-0 while Team 24 Gamecocks – Miller (SC) topped the Canes – Ritter 11-3. In the finals, the Storm blanked the Gamecocks 12-0.

#12 Dirtbags Charlotte went 2-1 on Saturday with an 8-3 win over Heat Baseball – Black and a 21- win over Stars and Stripes (VA). Heat Baseball also scored an 11-11 tie against Mayhem Baseball. In the rematch final of the Dirtbags and the Heat, the Heat were able to take down the Dirtbags 15-10 to split the series between the for the weekend.

The Carolina Titans Blue went 1-1 on Saturday with a 9-1 win over Tidewater Outlaws (VA) and a 9-1 loss to the Tidewater Horns (VA). The Carolina Titans also went 1-1 with a 14-3 win over the Top Hand Reds National and a 12-2 loss to the Evoshield Canes (Black) (VA). The Titans Blue lost 10-6 to the Virginia Mariners while the Titans lost 11-3 to the Horns in their opening bracket play games on Sunday. The rest of Sunday was rained out.

The Summerfield Stars went 2-0 on Saturday scoring a 19-10 win over the Carolina Curve and a 19-0 win over Proehlific Power. GRIT also went 2-0 with a 20-19 win over Rogue Baseball and a 12-4 win over the Wardogs. The GBC Prospects were also 2-0 on Saturday with a 14-13 win over the Curve and a 12-8 win over the Power. In bracket play on Sunday it was GRIT over the power 16-2, the Curve over the GBC Prospects 13-3, Rogue Baseball over the Wardogs 21-1, and the Summerfield Stars over GRIT 7u 16-1. In the semifinals, GRIT took out the Curve 12-4 and the Stars rolled over Rogue 14-3. In the finals, the Stars capped off a 5-0 weekend with a 17-9 win over GRIT.

#17 Smash Baseball went 2-0 on Saturday with a 12-5 win over #20 Summerfield Stars and a 5-4 win over the GBC Prospects. The Stars tied the Luckies 9-9 in their other pool play game. Dirtbags Gold also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 12-3 win over the Lake Monsters and a 5-2 win over Dirtbags (VA). In bracket play, the Stars topped Dirtbags (VA) 10-2, the Prospects beat the Luckies 12-4, while Smash Baseball blasted the Lake Monsters 16-1. In the semifinals, the Stars topped Dirtbags Gold 13-6, while Smash continued their run with a 12-1 win over the GBC Prospects. It does not appear the final was able to be completed, so if it was readers please let us know.

The Luckies also went 2-0 on Saturday, scoring an 11-3 win over Proehlific Power and a 11-3 win over the Summerfield Stars. In bracket play, the Luckies notched a 12-4 win over the Summerfield Stars while the GBC Prospects scored an 11-9 win over the Triad Thunder. In the finals, the Luckies blanked the Prospects 12-0.

10u #13 Dirtbags Black went 1-1 in pool play, playing up in the 11u division. They scored a 10-0 win over the Virginia Dirty Birds in addition to an 11-8 loss to the Piedmont Patriots. The Patriots went 2-0 on Saturday with a 6-4 win over GRIT – Jones in addition to their win over the Dirtbags. The Pilot Mountain Dirtbags also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 11-1 win over the Triad Titans and a 5-2 win over the NCBA Tar Heels. On Sunday, Dirtbags topped GRIT – Jones 7-4, the Patriots edged the Titans 7-6, the Tar Heels edged past Power Baseball 8-7, while the Pilot Mountain Dirtbags dropped the Dirty Birds with an 11-3 win. In the semifinals the Patriots topped Dirtbags Black 9-1 while the Pilot Mountain Dirtbags beat NCBA 10-2. The final appears to have been rained out early in the game.

The South Rowan Hammerheads went 2-0 on Saturday with a 15-0 win over Outlaw Baseball and a 7-6 win over GRIT. On Sunday, the NCBA Royals topped GRIT 13-10 while South Rowan topped the Outlaws again, 9-1. The final was unable to be completed.

Heat Red went 2-0 with a 12-3 win over RBA and a 15-6 win over Athlete’s Lab Crushers. Heat Black also went 2-0 with a 16-3 win over Equip and a 12-8 win over the AC Sluggers. In the finals, Heat Red topped Heat Black 11-1.

Crosstrain and Heat Black met in a one game final after Crosstrain went 2-0 in pool play with a 9-4 win over Heat Black and a 22-4 win over the Easton Foothills Gators. Heat Black scored a 7-4 win over the Gators. In the finals, the Heat were able to get revenge with a 9-4 win.

The Ashe Aces went 2-0 in pool play with a 7-6 win over RBA Heels Blue and a 6-5 win over EW Havoc. RBA Heels White went 1-1 in pool play with a 10-0 win over Cougars Baseball and a 8-6 loss to McDowell, but that was enough to reach the finals. In the finals, Ashe Aces scored a 12-7 win to complete the undefeated day.

Athlete’s Lab Crushers went 2-0 in pool play with a 12-1 win over WCW Black and a 14-9 win over the Hickory Hurricanes. The McDowell Titans also went 2-0 in pool play with a 17-1 win over the AC Outlaws and a 11-10 win over NC Swat. In the finals, Athletes’s Lab scored a 14-9 win over the Titans.

Spartans – Keaton went 2-0-1 on Saturday with a 6-6 tie against RBA White and a 9-5 win over RBA Blue followed by a 10-2 win over RBA Blue in the finals.
