It was an exciting weekend of USSSA baseball as a couple of #1’s were in action (9u Park Sharon Nationals and 11u SBA Canes – Ross). Both #1’s lived up to their ranking as were several other highly ranked teams. Check out the recap of this past weekend’s USSSA games.

The Cherryville Bulldogs were dominant in their two pool play games on Saturday scoring a 20-3 win over Elite 9 and a 16-2 win over the Weddington Wrecking Crew. The Tega Cay Titans (SC) were equally dominant in their pool play games, notching a 12-3 win over the Weddington Wolves and a 14-1 win over the Wrecking Crew, to set up a finals match up of the Bulldogs and the Titans. In an exciting, high-scoring finals, it was the Bulldogs outlasting the Titans 19-18 to take home this one-day championship.

#1 Park Sharon Nationals was in action this weekend in Charlotte and they were as dominant as ever, scoring an 11-2 win over #17 SBA Canes – Simmons and a 15-1 win over over the Mission Vipers to secure their spot in the finals. The Canes – Simmons scored a 20-2 win over Copperheads – Sigler in their other pool play game, but it wasn’t enough to reach the finals as #10 Piedmont Panthers went 2-0 in pool play with a 19-1 win over Weddington and an 11-0 win over SBA Canes – Goodyear to earn a spot in the finals. In the finals, Park Sharon again showed why they are the clear #1 in the 9u age group with a dominating 13-1 win over the Panthers.

#4 Mission Vipers Gold was in action on Saturday and they did not disappoint, notching a 14-3 win over L-town Lightning and a 9-3 win over Team 24 Gamecocks (SC). It was also a good weekend for the LKN Hurricanes as they went 2-0 with a 9-8 win over the Weddington Red Fire and a 9-8 win over the Weddington Blue Ice. The MARA Bolts also went 2-0 with a 15-5 win over the SBA Canes and a 9-8 win over the Blue Ice.

#10 SBA Canes – Erwin started their weekend in excellent fashion with a 17-1 win over Elite 9. They were faced with daunting all-SBA game against our #1 11u team in the state, SBA Canes – Ross in game #2. This one went to the Canes – Ross, who scored a 9-1 win over their SBA compatriots. The Canes – Ross also scored a 9-1 win over #20 Vision Bandits. The Bandits were able to bounce back with a 14-3 win over the Wolverines in their other game on Saturday.

#4 Park Sharon National were in action this weekend and went 1-1 on Saturday with a 13-2 win over the On Deck O’s Black and a 9-8 loss to Team 24 Gamecocks – Brown (SC). The On Deck O’s also lost a 9-8 game against SBA Canes – Thacker. The Canes – Thacker dropped their second game to the MP Colonels 11-3. The Colonels also beat Weddington Baseball 12-2 to finish the weekend 2-0. Team 24 also went 2-0 this weekend with a 10-5 win over SBA Canes – Ritter to go along with their win over Park Sharon.

The Stingrays went 2-0 this weekend with a 12-4 win over Diamond Mine and a 14-1 win over Union County Crush – Devore. The Crush also defeated Diamond Mine 16-1 to finish the weekend 1-1 and drop Diamond Mine to 0-2 for the weekend.

#6 Five Star Carolina – Hilton went 2-0 on Saturday with a 9-3 win over GRIT and a 6-0 win over the Kernersville Cyclones. the Pfafftown Raiders also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 10-2 win over GRIT and a 10-3 win over the Cyclones.

GRIT went 2-0 on Saturday in Greensboro with a 12-1 win over the Carolina Red Sox – Jones and a 7-4 win over the DC Vipers. GRIT – Koonin also went 2-0 this weekend with an 8-3 win over Big Cats Baseball and a 15-5 win over the DC Vipers.

The River City Redbirds (VA) went 2-0 this weekend in Greensboro with an 8-3 win over GRIT and a 12-4 win over Spartans – Campbell. GRIT finished 1-1 for the weekend with a 5-3 win over Proehlific Power in addition to their loss to the Red Birds. The Spartans also scored a win over the Power, by the score of 4-0, to finish 1-1 on Saturday as well.

The Leland Lugnuts went 2-0 on Saturday with an 18-3 win over the Wilmington Whitecaps and a 13-4 win over the Elizabethtown Express and earned the top seed for Sunday bracket play. In bracket play, the Whitecaps topped the Ogden Hurricanes 15-1 in the play-in game to reach the semifinal. In the semifinals, the Whiteville Wolfpack out-slugged the Express 29-15, while the Lugnuts rolled over the Whitecaps 15-1 to reach the final. In the finals, the Lugnuts snuck past the Wolfpack and scored an 11-10 win to take home the 8u title in Wilmington.

The Coastal Cyclones opened up pool play going 2-0 on Saturday with a 16-0 win over the Cape Fear Mayhem and a 10-3 win over the Port City Rebels. The Rebels went 1-1 with a 15-10 win over the Elizabethtown Express in addition to their loss to the Cyclones. The Express also scored a 21-11 win over the Mayhem to go 1-1 in pool play. In the semifinals, the Express topped the Rebels 11-10 while the Cyclones rolled by the Mayhem 17-2 to reach the final. In the final, the Cyclones continued their dominant run with a 15-5 win over the Express.

#7 Port City Rebels went 2-0 in pool play with a 25-1 win over the Jacksonville Generals and a 16-3 win over the Wilmington Wahoo. Rock Solid Red also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 6-5 win over Dirtbags Coastal and a 10-2 win over the Coastal Cyclones. In bracket play, Rock Solid Red again topped Dirtbags Coastal, this time by the score of 14-6, while the Rebels rolled to the finals with an 11-1 win over Elizabethtown Express. In the finals, the Rebels edged out Rock Solid Red 11-10 to finish 4-0 for the weekend and win the title.

The Brunswick Core went 4-0 in this double round robin format tournament to take home the 11u title this weekend in Wilmington. On Saturday, they beat Rock Solid Blue 10-7 and Pirates Elite 4-1. On Sunday, they again topped Rock Solid Blue, this time by the score of 8-7. They finished out their Sunday with a 7-1 win over Pirates Elite to finish 4-0 for the weekend.

Dirtbags Coastal started the weekend hot, going 2-0 on Saturday with a 8-0 win over the Cape Fear Mayhem and a 4-2 win over Rock Solid Blue. Rock Solid scored a 10-2 win over Cape Fear to finish 1-1 on Saturday. On Sunday, Cape Fear topped Dirtbags Coastal 5-4, while Rock Solid also topped Dirtbags Coastal 4-1.
