Triple Crown Capital City Invitational 9u-11u Recap April 2019

Oh, you thought the only big event going on this past weekend was in Charlotte? Some of the very best teams in Virginia in surrounding states went at it in Richmond, Virginia this past weekend at the Triple Crown Sports Capital City Classic. 17 top 10 teams in Virginia from 9u-11u were in the fields as well as multiple nationally ranked teams. VA #1 Canes Baseball - Roach went 5-0 this weekend in Richmond on their way to the 9u title.

7 of our top 10 teams in Virginia as well as the #5 team in North Carolina made their way to compete in the 11-team 9u field in Richmond this past weekend. In pool A, VA #1 Canes Baseball VA - Roach opened up pool play with a 14-7 win over Moorestown (NJ) and a 6-1 win over #6 VA Seminoles - Everett. The Seminoles topped Moorestown 14-4 in their other pool play game to finish 1-1 on Saturday. In pool B, NC #5 Canes Baseball NC - Harris went 2-0, scoring a 15-5 win over VA #7 Stars Baseball - Arnold and a 2-1 win over VA #5 Fielder's Choice. VA #2 Canes Baseball VA - Ruberti went 1-1 in pool B, falling 3-2 against Fielder's Choice before topping Stars - Arnold 9-5. In pool C, VA #3 757 Dirtbags Platinum went 1-1, notching a 12-11 win over Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold (NJ) before falling 4-1 against VA #9 RockIt Sports Blue. The Western Tidewater Rage also went 1-1 in pool C, scoring a 6-5 win over RockIt Blue and falling 9-7 against Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold.

Bracket play was played as a double-elimination for the top 4 seeds (Canes - Roach, Canes - Harris, Canes - Ruberti, and RockIt Sports Blue), and single elimination for seeds 5-11. In the 3 play-in games, Western Tidewater Rage scored a 9-8 win over 757 Dirtbags Platinum, Moorestown topped Fielder's Choice 14-9, and Stars Baseball - Arnold knocked out Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold with a 14-10 victory. In the second round games in the lower bracket, VA Seminoles - Everett topped Western Tidewater Rage 13-5 and Moorestown got past Stars Baseball - Arnold with a 13-9 win. In the upper bracket first round games, Canes - Roach rolled to a 9-1 win over RockIt Sports Blue and Canes - Harris topped Canes - Ruberti 7-2. This moved RockIt Blue and Canes - Ruberti into the lower bracket. In the lower bracket games, RockIt Sports scored an 8-0 win over VA Seminoles - Everett and Canes - Ruberti moved on with a 13-8 win over Moorestown. This moved Canes - Ruberti and RockIt Blue into an elimination game in the lower bracket. Canes - Ruberti was able to get the better of RockIt Blue in this one, scoring an 11-5 win to move on to the lower bracket finals. In the lower bracket finals, they faced off against Canes - Harris, who fell 6-3 against Canes - Roach in the upper bracket finals. This moved Canes - Roach on to the tournament finals. In the lower bracket finals, Canes - Harris scored their second win of the weekend over Canes - Ruberti, notching an 11-2 win and moving Canes - Harris into the finals in a rematch with Canes - Roach. In the finals, Canes - Roach again got the better of Canes - Harris, pulling out a 10-0 win and taking home the 9u title.

12 teams, including 4 of our top 10 teams in Virginia, as well as teams from Maryland and New Jersey were all in action in the 10u age group in Richmond. In pool A, VA #1 VA Seminoles - Dowdy went 1-1 with a 16-1 win over Canes VA - Grauer and a 10-0 loss against the Olney Pirates (MD). The Pirates scored a 10-2 win over Canes - Grauer in their other pool play game. In pool B, VA #3 Stars Baseball - Colangelo went 2-0 with an 18-1 win over the Richmond Hornets and a 21-0 win over Canes Baseball MD - Maxwell. The Hornets edged past Canes - Maxwell 10-9 in their other pool play game on Saturday. In pool C, Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold (NJ) went 2-0 with an 8-7 win over VA #2 RockIt Sports Blue and an 8-4 win over VA #8 Stafford Warriors. RockIt Blue topped the Warriors 9-1 in their other pool play game. In pool D, the Richmond Spiders went 2-0, scoring a 10-8 win over Rise AAA and a 15-4 win over the Virginia Beach Knights. Rise AAA rolled to a 17-3 win over the Knights in their other pool play game. Similar to the 9u age group, the top 4 seeds (Stars - Colangelo, Olney Pirates, Richmond Spiders, and Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold) while seeds 5-12 had to start in the single elimination lower bracket.

In the opening lower bracket games, the Stafford Warriors scored an 8-4 win over the Richmond Hornets, RockIt Sports Blue edged the Virginia Beach Knights 3-2, VA Seminoles - Dowdy scored a 1-run 11-10 win over Canes - Maxwell, and Canes - Grauer rolled to a 12-2 win over Rise AAA. In the second round of games in the lower bracket, RockIt Sports Blue blanked the Stafford Warriors 9-0 and VA Seminoles - Dowdy scored another 1-run win with a 12-11 win over Canes - Grauer. In the opening games in the upper bracket, Stars - Colangelo rolled to a 15-0 win over Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold and the Olney Pirates blanked the Richmond Spiders 8-0. In the third round of lower bracket games, Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold edged RockIt Blue 4-3, and VA Seminoles - Dowdy topped the Richmond Spiders 9-4. In the upper bracket finals, Stars - Colangelo blanked the Olney Pirates 3-0. In the lower bracket semifinals, Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold got past Seminoles - Dowdy 11-8. In the lower bracket finals, Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold topped the Olney Pirates 12-2 to reach the tournament finals. In the tournament finals, Stars Baseball - Colangelo notched a 10-9 win over Canes Mid-Atlantic Gold to take home the 10u title.

The 11u age group feature 12 teams, including 6 of the top 10 teams in Virginia, as well as teams from Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Among these 12 teams were 5 teams ranked in Perfect Game's top 100 11u teams in America (#27 Tri State Arsenal National [NJ], #28 Mid Atlantic Show [NJ], #33 Stars Baseball - Camp [VA], #46 Rip City [VA], and #71 VA Seminoles - Fletcher). In pool A, VA #5 Seminoles - Fletcher went 2-0 with a 13-9 win over the RBA Royals (MD) and an 11-2 win over the Top Hand Reds. The Royals topped the Reds 8-5 in their other pool play game. In pool B, Tri State Arsenal National scored a 7-2 win over VA #3 Rip City and a 14-5 win over the Olney Pirates (MD). Rip City scored a 6-5 win over the Olney Pirates in their other pool play game. In pool C, VA #1 Stars - Camp went 2-0 with a 9-1 win over the Mid Atlantic Show and a 5-0 win over VA #2 Invaders Baseball. The Mid Atlantic Show scored a 5-3 win over Invaders Baseball in their other pool play game. In pool D, Pittsburgh Outlaws - Orange went 2-0 with a 7-2 win over VA #6 Stafford Warriors and a 6-4 win over VA #8 Team Vinci - Elrod. Team Vinci got past the Stafford Warriors 9-5 in their other pool play game. Similar to the 9u age group, the top 4 seeds (Stars - Camp, Tri State Arsenal National, VA Seminoles - Fletcher, and Pittsburgh Outlaws - Orange) while seeds 5-12 had to start in the single elimination lower bracket.

In the opening lower bracket games, the Olney Pirates scored a 13-11 win over Mid Atlantic Show, Team Vinci - Elrod rolled to a 17-2 win over the Top Hand Reds, Invaders Baseball topped Rip City 8-6, and the Stafford Warriors edged past the RBA Royals 5-4. In the second round lower bracket games, the Olney Pirates topped Team Vinci 10-9 and the Stafford Warriors notched a 2-0 win over Invaders Baseball. In the opening round in the upper bracket, Stars - Camp blanked the Pittsburgh Outlaws 8-0 and Tri State Arsenal National edged Seminoles - Fletcher 7-6. In the third round of lower bracket games, the Pittsburgh Outlaws topped the Olney Pirates 11-5 and VA Seminoles - Fletcher scored an 11-3 win over the Stafford Warriors. In the 4th round in the lower bracket, VA Seminoles - Fletcher got past the Pittsburgh Outlaws 7-3. In the upper bracket finals, Tri State Arsenal National blanked Stars Baseball - Camp 12-0. In the lower bracket finals, Stars - Camp edged past Seminoles - Fletcher 6-5 to set up a rematch against Tri State Arsenal National. In the finals, Tri State Arsenal National scored another win over Stars Baseball - Camp with a 4-1 win.
