4 teams across 2 age groups made the trip to Georgia this weekend for the Triple Crown Back to School Backyard Brawl. The North Carolina teams held their own, going a combined 7-1 in pool play and with 11u #2 SBA Canes – Ross taking home the 11u title. 10u #5 East Rowan went 1-1 in pool play in Georgia, scoring a 7-4 win over the Norcross Blue Devils and a dropping a 13-6 contest against the West Forsyth Wolverines. This was good enough, however, to qualify them for Gold bracket play. In bracket play on Sunday, East Rowan defeated the Mayhem Bad Boys 13-3 to reach the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, they again were matched up against the West Forysth Wolverines. West Forsyth was able to get out to a 6-2 lead after two innings and hold on for an 11-7 win which ended East Rowan’s tournament run.

The 11u age group featured 3 North Carolina teams in #2 SBA Canes – Ross, #15 OTK Saints, and Carolina Blue Mizuno. In pool play, the NC teams went a combined 6-0 with Canes – Ross scoring a 9-4 win over Home Plate West and a 9-3 win over the Georgia Jackets. The Saints notched a 12-9 win over Sandy Plains Wildcats – Cook and a 13-3 win over the Sequoyah Junior Chiefs, while Carolina Blue topped the Kennesaw Generals 8-3 and the 6-4-3 DP Tigers 11-1. All three teams qualified for Gold bracket play. In the quarterfinals, Canes – Ross topped the Kennesaw Generals 4-0, the Saints edged the MC Mariners 10-8, while Carolina Blue was defeated by East Side Rawlings Southeast 8-5. Titans Sports Academy – Shields edged the Ocee Orioles 6-5 in the other quarterfinal. In the semifinals, Canes – Ross and the OTK Saints went head-to-head with the Canes coming out on top 4-2. Titans Sports won the other semifinal over East Side Rawlings Southeast 5-4 to reach the finals. In the finals, SBA Canes – Ross completed their 5-0 tournament run with an 11-3 win over Titans Sports to secure the Triple Crown title in Georgia.
