Top Gun Recap Rocky Mount 8/25-8/26/18

11u Dirtbags East made it 2 for 2 with tournament titles this fall, and increased their record to 8-0 with an impressive showing in Rocky Mount. Several other teams made some strong showings as well and we've highlighted some of the best performances of the weekend.

4 teams played in the 8u age group this past weekend in Snow Hill. On Saturday, the Cleveland Wildcats went 2-0 with an 11-3 win over Area Stars - Cox and a 19-5 win over the Carolina Thunder to earn the top seed for bracket play. The East Carolina Bombers went 0-2 in their games on Saturday with an 11-7 loss to the Area Stars and a 14-11 loss to the Carolina Thunder. On Sunday, the Thunder topped the Area Stars 13-6 and the Wildcats rolled to a 17-2 win over the Bombers to reach the finals. In the finals, the Wildcats completed a 4-0 weekend with a 10-7 win over the Carolina Thunder.

6 teams battled it out in the 9u age group this past weekend in Rocky Mount. Greenville Athletics - Whitley went 2-0 on Saturday with a 15-3 win over the FV Wildcats and an 11-1 win over NCABC FUNGO and earned the top seed for bracket play. The Carolina Crushers 2027 went 1-1 on Saturday following a 19-3 win over Greenville Athletics - DHL and 7-2 loss to FUNGO, but this was good enough to earn the Crushers the #2 seed for Sunday. In the bracket play play-in games on Sunday, the FV Wildcats rolled to a 26-4 win over Greenville Athletics - DHL and FUNGO topped Extreme Baseball 14-1. The semifinals consisted of two excellent games as the Crushers edged FUNGO 6-5 and Greenville Athletics - Whitley squeezed by the FV Wildcats with a 4-3 win. In the finals, Greenville Athletics - Whitley sealed a 4-0 weekend with an 11-0 shut out of the Crushers.

The Carolina Freedom started off their fall campaign in impressive fashion, going 2-0 on Saturday with a 15-12 win over Greenville Athletics - Givens and a 9-2 win over the Carolina Flash. Greenville Athletics scored a 14-4 win over the Winterville Knights in their other pool play game, while the Flash topped Extreme Baseball 16-6 in their other pool play game. In the #4/5 play-in game on Sunday, the Winterville Knights scored a 7-6 win over Extreme Baseball. In the semifinals, Greenville Athletics rolled to an 18-3 win over the Carolina Flash while the Freedom topped the Knights 10-4. In the finals, the Freedom completed their undefeated weekend with a 12-9 win over Greenville Athletics - Givens.

Open

The Open division featured a handful of teams who finished ranked in the final 10u rankings this past year, headlined by final 10u #6 Dirtbags East. On Saturday, Dirtbags East went 2-0 with a 13-2 win over the Carolina MudDawgs and a 8-2 win over the East Carolina Bombers and earned the top seed for Sunday bracket play. Final 10u #13 Wendell Knights also went 2-0 with a 7-5 win over DPC Baseball Gold and an 18-3 win over Dirtbags Platinum. Rawlings Prospects NC went 1-1 on Saturday with a 10-2 win over the MudDawgs and a 6-5 loss to the East Carolina Bombers. In the #4/5 play-in game on Sunday, the Bombers topped DPC Baseball Gold 6-4. In the semifinals, Rawlings Prospects NC scored an 8-4 win over the Wendell Knights and Dirtbags East notched a 12-7 win over the East Carolina Bombers. In the finals, Dirtbags East pushed their early Fall 2018 record to 8-0 and brought home their second tournament title of the fall with a 13-3 win over Rawlings Prospects NC.

8 teams were in the 11u D3 field this weekend in Rocky Mount. The Rocky Mount Raiders went 2-0 on Saturday with a 18-16 win over the PC Dynamite and a 6-5 win over the Bomb Squad. The North Wake Chargers also went 2-0 on Saturday with a 32-7 win over the Wendell Sluggers and an 11-10 win over Dirtbags East Gold. In the 4-team Gold bracket semifinals, the Raiders topped the Bomb Squad 15-9 while Dirtbags East Gold scored an 11-4 win over the Chargers. In the finals, the Raiders finished up a 4-0 weekend with an 11-10 win over Dirtbags East Gold.

Open

11u Final #16 Dirtbags East went 2-0 on Saturday with a 10-0 win over Purpose Driven North and a 6-0 win over the SP Vipers, which earned them the #1 seed for bracket play. The Durham Blues earned the #2 seed after going 2-0 on Saturday with a 9-5 win over the Cleveland Wildcats and a 5-3 win over the Carolina Rage. The Rage scored a 19-0 win over the Cleveland Wildcats in their other pool play game to finish with the #3 seed in the Gold bracket. In the Gold bracket semifinals, the Rage got revenge on the Blues with a 7-3 win, while Dirtbags East edged the Wendell Sharks 7-6. In the finals, the Rage pulled off an 8-3 win over Dirtbags East to take home the 12u title.

D3

12 teams faced off in the D3 12u field this weekend in Rocky Mount. The VA Squires earned the top seed after 12-0 win over Triangle Sports Hawks Black and a 10-5 win over the Carolina Armor. The Zebulon Cougars earned the #2 seed with a 10-4 win over Carolina Rage - Red and a 5-1 win over the Carolina Shockwave. The Shockwave scored a 7-5 win over the Perquimans Rivercats in their other pool play game. In the play-in games on Sunday, the Shockwave notched a 7-1 win over Hit and Run Select - Fuquay Varina and the Rivercats topped the MudDawgs 11-4. In the semifinals, the Shockwave blasted their way to a 13-11 win over the VA Squires while the Zebulon Cougars edged the Rivercats 7-5. In the finals, the Cougars finished off a 4-0 weekend with a 10-9 win over the Shockwave.

Final 12u #16 Carolina Titans - Wilson went 2-0 on Saturday with a 5-1 win over Archers and a 10-0 win over the Pitt County Diamond Dawgs and earned the top seed for bracket play. Hit & Run 5 Star Wildcats earned the #2 seed for Gold bracket play after a 6-5 win over the Carolina Titans Blue and a 6-5 win over the Wayne County Arsenal. In the Gold bracket semifinals, Hit & Run again topped the Arsenal, this time by the score of 10-3. Carolina Titans - Wilson scored a 7-6 win over Archers in their semifinals match up. In the finals, Titans - Wilson notched a 9-2 win over Hit & Run to finish off an undefeated weekend.

Gettin Dirty stared off their 13u season with an excellent weekend, going 2-0 on Saturday with an 8-3 win over the North Wake Hurricanes and an 8-7 win over RBI Raptors - Evans, but this was only enough to earn them the #4 seed for bracket play. The Trent River Stingrays earned the top seed with a 15-2 win over OC Crushers Black and a 9-2 win over the North Raleigh Tsunami. The Cumberland County Venom and the Durham also went 2-0 in pool play and earned the #2 and 3 seeds for bracket play, respectively. The Venom scored a 9-4 win over the North Wake Hurricanes and a 13-6 win over RBI Raptors - Evans, while the Durham Blues notched an 8-3 win over the North Raleigh Tsunami and a 9-7 win over OC Crushers Black. In the semifinals on Sunday, the Blues topped the Venom 6-3 and Getting Dirty edged the Stingrays 4-3. In the finals, Gettin Dirty rolled to a 16-1 win over the Blues to finish 4-0 for the weekend.
