Top Gun 9u Summer World Series Recap 2018

5 top 20 teams in the D1 division. 3 top 20 teams in the D2 division. 8 total top 20 teams, including 5 of the top 15 in action this weekend at the Summer World Series. In addition to some of the best teams from North Carolina, several of the best teams for surrounding states were in action as well in the 9u fields. Take a look at our recap of the action from this past weekend.

D1

Friday Pool Play

10 teams were in action in the 9u D1 division on Friday. Our #3 team, Dirtbags Black went 2-0 on Friday scoring a 14-4 win over #9 Smash Baseball and a 12-11 win over the Coastal Cyclones. Smash fell 10-4 to the Virginia Stars - Colangelo in their other game on Friday to finish 0-2 for the day. The Stars scored a 10-8 win over Line Drive Black (GA) in their other pool play game on Friday. #6 Coach's Box Broncos went 1-1 on Friday with an 18-1 win over #18 NCDB Rivercats and a 5-0 loss to #16 West Raleigh Blue. The Rivercats fell behind 4-1 through two innings and couldn't come all the way back in a 4-3 loss to Union County Crush - Walker to finish 0-2 on Friday, while West Raleigh scored an 8-0 win over the Aldie Senators (VA) to finish 2-0 on Friday.

Saturday Pool Play

On Saturday, Dirtbags Black fell behind 6-4 but scored 5 runs in the 4th and added another run in the 5th to take a 10-6 win over West Raleigh Blue. In their second pool play game, the Dirtbags notched a 9-6 win over Line Drive Black and finished 4-0 in pool play and received the #2 seed in the Gold bracket. West Raleigh Blue scored a 16-6 win over Smash Baseball in their other pool play game on Saturday and finished 3-1 in pool play which earned them the #3 seed for bracket play. The Coach's Box Broncos went 1-1 on Sunday with a 6-4 win over Smash and a 16-1 loss to the Virginia Stars, and finished 2-2 in pool play and earned the 6th and final Gold bracket seed. The Stars topped Union County Crush - Walker 13-3 in their other pool play game on Saturday and finished with the #1 seed for bracket play.

Bracket Play 

In the #4/5 play-in game, the Aldie Senators topped the Coastal Cyclones 7-2. In the #3/6 play-in game, West Raleigh Blue scored a 14-3 win over Coach's Box Broncos. In the first semifinal game, the Virginia Stars edged the Aldie Senators 4-2. In a wild second semifinal game, West Raleigh Blue opened with 8 runs in the top of the 4th, only to be answered by 4 runs for Dirtbags Black in the bottom of the first. The Dirtbags scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take an 11-10 lead, but West Raleigh answered with a run in the top of the 4th to tie the game at 11. In the 5th and final inning, West Raleigh failed to scored and the Dirtbags pushed one across in the bottom of the inning to take a 12-11 walk off win. In the finals, the Virginia Stars fell behind 9-3 through 4 innings, but scored 3 runs in the 5th. The Stars added 2 in the bottom of the 5th to take and 11-6 lead into the 6th inning. In the top of the 6th, the Dirtbags scored 4 runs, but fell just short falling 11-10 to the Stars.

In the Silver bracket semifinals, Line Drive Black scored an 8-1 win over Smash Baseball and the Rivercats topped Union County Crush 10-8. In the finals, Line Drive Black scored an 8-7 win over the NCDB Rivercats.
