Top Gun 13u WWS Recap October 2018

The 13u age group had 79 teams spread across 5 division in what was one of the largest single 13u events of the fall. There were a lot of great teams in action and some really outstanding play all weekend. Here we recap the weekend's games and highlight some of the best team performances.

D1

#19 East Coast Clippers were our only ranked team in this 7-team field this past weekend. They went 1-1 in pool play with an 11-3 loss against the Warriors (SC) and a 9-4 win over NCDB Rivercats - B and earned the #6 seed for bracket play. The Carolina Rattlers earned the top seed and a bye into the semifinals after going 2-0 in pool play including a 4-3 win over the Warriors and an 8-5 win over the Walkoff Warriors. The Warriors earned the #2 seed with their 1-1 record in pool play.

In the bracket play first round games, #4 seed NCDB Rivercats - B topped #5 seed CB Elite 8-2, and #6 seed East Coast Clippers scored a 10-6 win over #3 seed Walkoff Warriors. In the semifinals, the Rattlers topped NCDB - B 5-4 and the Warriors scored a 10-3 win over the East Coast Clippers. In the finals, the Warriors blanked the Rattlers 8-0 to take home the title.

12 teams faced off in the D2 division this weekend at the WWS. The Washington River Rats earned the top seed for the play-in games with a 6-0 win over the Riptide and an 8-3 win over Tri-County Arsenal. Area Stars - Hughes earned the #2 seed following a 12-3 win over Carolina Stingers and a 16-3 win over the Riptide. Carolina Titans Blue scored the #3 seed with a 10-2 win over the Akadema Punishers and a 6-5 win over Sandhills Stingrays - Hofstetler. Zone Select - Williams received the #4 seed after a 5-4 win over Sandhills Stingrays - Hofstetler and a 10-7 win over Gettin Dirty.

In the play-in games, #1 seed Washington River Rats notched an 11-3 win over Gettin Dirty and #2 seed Area Stars - Hughes scored a 10-1 win over #11 seed Carolina Stingers. Both teams received a bye into the Gold bracket semifinals. Gettin Dirty edged past Carolina Titans Blue 5-4, Sandhills Stingrays - Hofstetler rolled to a 17-5 win over Zone Select - Williams, the Carolina Freedom blanked the Punishers 3-0, and the Tri-County Arsenal beat the HYAA Hawks 9-1. In the Gold bracket first round games, Carolina Freedom blanked Sandhills Stingrays - Hofstetler 10-0 and Tri-County Arsenal edged Gettin Dirty 8-7. In the semifinals, the Area Stars scored a 7-6 win over Tri-County Arsenal and the Washington River Rats notched a 7-1 win over the Carolina Freedom. In the finals, got out to an 11-5 lead and held on to take an 11-10 win over the Washington River Rats.

23 teams battled out in the 54/80 D3 division this past weekend with the only the top 16 seeds making it to the play-in games to earn a spot in the Gold bracket. RBI Raptors - Evans earned the top seed for the play-in games with a 3-1 win over the Carolina Boyz and a 16-2 win over the South East Outlaws. The Southwestern Wake Sliders scored the #2 seed after a 17-2 win over the Garner Generals and a 12-2 win over the Carolina Trojans. Five Star Trent River Stingrays received the #3 seed with a 6-4 win over OC Crushers Black and a 10-2 win over the OC Sluggers. Team Xtreme (SC) scored the #4 seed for the play-in games with a 13-5 win over the Garner Generals and an 8-3 win over the North Raleigh Tsunami. 12u EC Diamondbacks - Bass scored the #11 seed after going 1-1 in pool play with a 10-1 loss against the Travelin' Tor-NATOs and a 12-2 win over the Cary Wildcats. The Tor-NATOs fell 8-4 against the North Wake Hurricanes in their other pool play game and earned the #8 seed for the play-in games.

In the Gold bracket quarterfinals, RBI Raptors - Evans blanked the Travelin' Tor-NATOs 5-0, Team Xtreme edged past the Carolina Rage 12-11, 12u EC Diamondbacks - Bass scored a 6-1 win over Five Star Trent River Stingrays, and the Cumberland County Venom edged past Zone Select - Alaffita 7-6. In the semifinals, Team Xtreme scored a 12-2 win over RBI Raptors - Evans, and EC Diamondbacks - Bass notched a 7-2 win over the Cumberland County Venom. In the finals, Team Xtreme finished off a 6-0 weekend with a 13-8 win over 12u EC Diamondbacks - Bass.
