AAU Recap 3/10-3/11/18

It was a small field this weekend with just two age groups in action for AAU in Oxford. Nevertheless, there were some early fireworks and the Carolina Thunder made a huge statement in the 10u age group with some impressive wins. Here’s a brief recap of the weekend’s games.

It was an outstanding weekend for #16 Carolina Thunder as they defeated #3 Dirtbags Platinum twice on their way to the championship in this one day event. The Thunder started their weekend with a hard-fought 4-2 win over the Dirtbags. They subsequently rolled over the Carolina Tide 15-0 to secure their spot in the finals. Meanwhile, the Dirtbags scored a 6-0 win over North Wake Elite to secure their berth into the finals. In the finals, it was again the Thunder who outlasted the Dirtbags to score an 8-3 win and make the first big statement of the spring season in the 10u age group.

The Northwake Shockwave started their weekend with two wins on Saturday, including a 7-5 over Western Tidewater Rage Elite and a 13-0 win over Diamond Strikers to earn their way in the final. They were met in the finals by the Alamance Angels who won a tie breaker to get to the finals, after going 1-1 in pool play with a 6-4 loss to the Rage Elite and a 17-4 win over Zone Select. In the finals, the Angels rode a strong offense to a 12-8 win over the Shockwave.
