There was only one AAU site in action this Memorial Weekend with several ranked teams in the fields across the three age groups. The Carolina Vandals continued their strong play with a 4-0 weekend and Five Star Carolina – Smith proved they deserve consideration amongst the state’s best teams in the 12u age group. With all of the focus on who are the top teams in North Carolina and how are the teams performing on the field, it’s a real pleasure to hear news like we heard this week. For the past five years, the Vs. Cancer fund has held the North Wake Vs. Cancer Benefit Tournament in Wake Forest, NC. Participating teams set out to raise funds for the Vs. Cancer Foundation and pediatric oncology programs at the University of North Carolina’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Three top 10 teams (8u #5 Carolina Vandals, 12u #7 Majestic Greensboro, and 13u Carolina Havoc – Clonch) will be in action in Clemmons this weekend. They’ll have plenty of competition, and here we preview the games this weekend in Clemmons.

We’ve very much enjoyed getting the site up and running over the past 6-8 months. We’ve received lots of feedback from the North Carolina baseball community and we hope we’ve been able to provide a useful resource for the parents, coaches, and players that visit the site. One of the most enjoyable features and tasks has been to formulate rankings for each age group each week. We’ve learned that teams, coaches, players, and parents are very interested in these rankings and really do look to them to see not only where their own team stands, but also where there opponents rank.
Top Gun had several sites rained out this weekend, however teams were still able to get in some baseball this weekend at various sites. There were numerous ranked teams including nearly a dozen top 10 teams, with several playing up. The 10 and 12u age groups in Charleston saw multiple match ups with ranked teams, including some great games between #2 Minion, #6 East Rowan, and #7 Majestic Greensboro. There was some exciting action, despite the rain, at the USSSA sites this weekend. In particular, Charlotte saw 9u #2 SBA Canes – Simmons win a great championship game against perhaps the top team in South Carolina, Team 24 Gamecocks – Ashley. The 11u division featured 5 teams in the top 11 in the state and numerous match ups amongst the teams. Here we recap the USSSA games from this past weekend.
