The 12u age group was an extremely competitive age group at the top with 4 teams ranked in the top 26 of Perfect Game's national 12u rankings, and 5 total teams in the top 100. Led by national #7, Rawlings Prospects NC, Dirtbags Black (#13), SBA Futures (#23), Canes Baseball NC - Foster (#26), and the NCDB Rivercats (#93) all made an appearance in PG's national rankings. Although we had the teams in a slightly different order, there was no doubt the Rawlings Prospects were the top dog in this age group this past year. Here we recap an extremely competitive 12u age group in North Carolina.
- Rawlings Prospects NC
The Rawlings Prospects put together a remarkable season on their way to the #1 ranking in our 12u state rankings. They finished the year with an overall record of 52-12-1, and finished 7th in the country in Perfect Game's 12u national rankings. They made an impressive run in the Perfect Game National World Series, losing to eventual champion and national #1 Texas Canes Elite in the semifinals. They also won USSSA Super NITs in back-to-back weekends this spring/summer. They posted an astounding 15 wins against teams in PG's 12u national rankings, including wins over #5 Twelve Blue (TX), #8 East Cobb Astros Orange (GA), #9 Motor City Hit Dogs (MI; x2), #13 Dirtbags Black, #17 Line Drive Black (GA), #23 SBA Futures (x4), #26 Canes Baseball NC - Foster, #43 Five Star National (GA), #49 Georgia Bandits, #63 MC Bulldogs (FL), and #93 NCDB Rivercats. They also had a win over national honorable mention Five Star Vols (TN) as well as 9 other wins over teams ranked in North Carolina including #5 Mission Baseball Gold, #7 Carolina Rockies - Culler, #8 DPC Academy Gold, #9 Dirtbags East (x3), #11 CBA Copperheads Black, #19 910 Select, and #21 Wendell Knights. Of their 12 losses, 7 came against nationally ranked teams, with two more coming against 12u competition. - Canes Baseball NC - Foster
Canes - Foster have been near the top of rankings in this age group for as long as we have been doing this, and this year was no different. They posted an overall record of 38-5-1 this past year, including a mark of 23-2-1 this spring/summer. They played a bit of an unusual schedule for this group, almost exclusively playing up on the bigger field in the 13u age group this summer. In total, they notched 16 wins over 13u teams, with 3 of their 5 total losses also coming against 13u teams. They had 7 total wins over rationally ranked teams, including #4 FCA Blueclaws (FL), #7 Rawlings Prospects, #23 SBA Futures (x2), #73 Canes Baseball SC - Staats (x2), and #93 NCDB Rivercats. The Canes also had 3 other wins over teams ranked in North Carolina including #8 DPC Academy Gold and #21 Wendell Knights (x2). In addition to 3 losses against 13u teams, their two other losses came at the hands of nationally ranked 12u teams. Their outstanding season earned the Canes the #26 spot in PG's national rankings. For the year, the Canes finished with a 1-1-1 record against #1 Rawlings Prospects NC indicating how close these two teams were. - Dirtbags Black
The Dirtbags finished the year with an overall record of 39-11-2, including a record of 23-6-1 this spring/summer. Similar to the Rawlings Prospects, the Dirtbags played a largely national scheduled, notching 10 wins over nationally ranked opponents including wins over #9 Motor City Hit Dogs (MI), #14 I AM Baseball (FL), #23 SBA Futures (x3), #28 Jupiter Hammerheads (FL), #39 Dykstra Baseball (CA), #46 NorEast Clippers (NY), and #85 Bombsquad (FL). They also had two wins over national honor roll member King Sluggers (FL). In addition to wins over nationally ranked opponents, the Dirtbags also had 6 total wins over teams ranked in North Carolina including #5 Mission Baseball Gold, #7 Carolina Rockies - Culler, #12 Luckies Platinum, #22 MPC, and #23 Athlete's Advantage Yard Goats. Of their 11 losses, 8 came against nationally ranked opponents. They finished runner-up at the Perfect Game Fall National World Series and won their pool at the PG National World Series this summer. This incredible season earned the Dirtbags the #13 ranking in PG's national rankings. - NCDB Rivercats
The Rivercats finished with an overall record of 35-16-2 this past year. They were ranked 93rd in PG's end-of-summer 12u national rankings after a strong showing this spring/summer. This included 4 wins over nationally ranked opponents including #7 Rawlings Prospects NC, #13 Dirtbags Black, #38 Traction Canes Black (LA), and #61 Comanche Baseball. They also had a win over national honorable mention awardee East Coast Snipers (SC) as well as 8 other wins over ranked teams in North Carolina including #7 Carolina Rockies - Culler, #8 DPC Academy Gold (x2), #9 Dirtbags East (x2), #12 Luckies Platinum (x2), and #22 MPC. Impressively, the Rivercats had 9 wins over teams in our final top 12 in the 12u age group in NC. Of their losses, 6 came against nationally ranked opponents with another 5 coming against teams ranked in the top 11 in NC. They finished the year with a 1-1 record against #1 Rawlings Prospects NC, an 0-1 record against #2 Canes Baseball NC - Foster, and a 1-0-1 record against #3 Dirtbags Black. Additionally, the Rivercats posted a record of 6-3 playing up at the 13u age group this summer. - Mission Baseball Gold
Mission Baseball Gold was one of the top performers in North Carolina all year. They finished with an overall record of 44-10-1 this year, including a mark of 26-5-1 this spring/summer. Among those 44 wins, Mission scored 3 wins over nationally ranked teams (#7 Rawlings Prospects and #23 SBA Futures [x2]). They also had 8 other wins against ranked teams in North Carolina including #10 CBC, #11 CBA Copperheads Black, #13 SBA Senators (x3), #15 Carolina Regulators, #22 MPC, and #24 Athletes Lab. Of their losses, 4 came against nationally ranked opponents with another to an opponent ranked in the top 10 in North Carolina. We had some difficulty separating the Rivercats and Mission Baseball as both teams had excellent years, however the number of results the Rivercats had against state and nationally ranked competition won out in our assessment.
- SBA Futures
The SBA Futures finished with an overall record of 45-21 this past year, including a mark of 23-12 this spring/summer. They played an outstanding schedule this past year, notching 9 total wins over nationally ranked teams including wins over #7 Rawlings Prospects NC, #10 Stars Baseball VA - Camp, #22 Yalobusha Giants (MS), #26 Canes Baseball NC - Foster, #61 Comanche Baseball (GA), #73 Canes Baseball SC - Staats, #85 Bombsquad (FL), #93 NCDB Rivercats, and #97 GBSA Rays (FL). They also had a win over national honorable mention awardee Central Florida Knights. They posted 6 other wins over teams ranked in North Carolina including #5 Mission Baseball Gold, #11 CBA Copperheads Black (x2), #12 Luckies Platinum, #23 Athlete's Advantage Yard Goats, and #25 West Raleigh Blue. Of their losses, 14 came against teams who finished in the top 100 of PG's 12u national rankings with 4 others coming against teams in our state rankings in North Carolina. - Carolina Rockies - Culler
The Rockies posted an overall record of 50-16 this past year, including a record of 36-10 this spring/summer. This included a total of 10 wins over ranked opponents in North Carolina, including wins over #9 Dirtbags East, #12 Luckies Platinum (x2), #18 Carolina Spinners, #21 Wendell Knights, #22 MPC, and #23 Athlete's Advantage Yard Goats (x4). They also posted an overall record of 11-6 against 13u teams this past year. 6 of their other losses came against teams ranked in our top 25 in North Carolina as well. - DPC Academy Gold
DPC was one of the fastest risers this year, going from unranked to start the year to end in our top 10. They posted an overall record of 34-13 this past year and had a total of 10 wins over ranked teams. This included 3 wins over national #93 NCDB Rivercats, against whom they had an overall record of 3-2 this past year, #9 Dirtbags East, #12 Luckies Platinum, #19 Five Star Carolina - Nelson (x3), #21 Wendell Knights, and #25 West Raleigh Blue. In addition, 5 of their losses came against nationally ranked opponents. They also posted 2 wins against 13u teams this summer. - Dirtbags East
Dirtbags East posted an overall record of 35-16-1 this past year, and a mark of 21-9 this spring/summer. They had 3 wins over nationally ranked teams - #70 CABA Nationals (AL), #91 Louisville Sting (KY), and #93 NCDB Rivercats. They also had wins over NC #8 DPC Academy Gold, #19 Five Star Carolina - Nelson, and #21 Wendell Knights. Of their losses, 8 came against nationally ranked teams, with another 3 coming against teams in our top 25 in North Carolina. They also posted a 6-1 overall record against 13u competition this summer. - CBC Baseball Club
CBC posted an outstanding record of 28-6-1 this spring/summer and an overall record of 44-9-1 this past year. This included 9 total wins over ranked teams in North Carolina including victories over #5 Mission Baseball Gold, #11 CBA Copperheads Black, #13 SBA Senators, #14 L-town Lightning, #15 Carolina Regulators, #16 DB Raptors Dubs, #17 LKN Hurricanes, #18 Carolina Spinners, and #24 Athletes Lab. Of their losses, 5 came at the hands of ranked opponents this past year.
- CBA Copperheads Black
CBA Copperheads Black finished the year with a 30-21 overall record, including a mark of 14-12 this spring/summer. While that may not appear to be the record of the #11 team in the state, further examination of their record suggests otherwise. They played a total of 24 games against nationally and state-ranked opponents. They had wins over 3 teams in Perfect Game's 12u national rankings. This included wins over #17 Line Drive Black (GA), #23 SBA Futures, and #93 NCDB Rivercats. They also had wins over NC #10 CBC Baseball Club, #13 SBA Senators, #15 Carolina Regulators, #18 Carolina Spinners, and #24 Athletes Lab. Among their losses, 10 came against nationally ranked opponents with another 6 against teams ranked in our North Carolina Rankings. - Luckies Platinum
The Luckies finished the year with an overall record of 40-16-1. This included a total of 7 wins over ranked opponents. The Luckies notched wins over #6 SBA Futures, #7 Carolina Rockies - Culler (x2), #14 L-Town Lightning, #16 DB Raptors Dubs, #17 LKN Hurricanes, #21 Wendell Knights, and #23 Carolina Titans - Ambrose. 7 of their losses came against ranked teams as well. - SBA Senators
The SBA Senators were a new team this spring and may quite the impression, finishing the spring/summer with a 23-10-1 record. This included wins over #11 CBA Copperheads Black (x2), #15 Carolina Regulators, and PG national honorable mention East Coast Snipers (SC). Of their losses, 3 came against nationally ranked/honorable mention teams with another 6 against ranked opponents in North Carolina. - L-town Lightning
The L-town Lightning posted an overall record of 41-8 this past year, including a mark of 24-4. Although their record was very impressive, they did not have the same number of results against ranked opponents as many of the teams in front of them. They did have a 1-1 record against #10 CBC Baseball Club as well as a loss against #12 Luckies Platinum this past year. - Carolina Regulators
The Regulators posted a 30-13-2 record this spring/summer and a 47-20-2 record overall this past year. They played a total of 12 games against ranked opponents, winning 4 of those games. This included wins over #16 DB Raptors Dubs (x2), #18 Carolina Spinners, and #22 MPC. They also had a tie against MPC as well.
- DB Raptors Dubs
DB Raptors Dubs finished the year with an overall record of 64-32 this past year, including a mark of 38-16 this spring/summer. This included 5 wins over ranked teams including #15 Carolina Regulators (x2), #17 LKN Hurricanes (x2), and #23 Athlete's Advantage Yard Goats. They also had 5 losses against ranked opponents in NC. - LKN Hurricanes
The LKN Hurricanes posted a 12-8 record this spring and a 30-15 record overall. They had wins over #16 DB Raptors Dubs (x2) and #23 Athlete's Advantage Yard Goats to highlight their 12u campaign. Unlike many other teams, the Hurricanes played an exclusively 13u schedule on the bigger field when they returned to action after the COVID break. - Carolina Spinners
The Spinners posted an outstanding 48-13 record this past year, including a mark of 24-6 this spring/summer. They played a total of 5 games against ranked opponents, highlighting their season with a win over #13 SBA Senators. - Five Star Carolina - Nelson
Five Star Carolina - Nelson was previously known as 910 Select before making the transition to the Five Star organization this summer. As best we can tell, Five Star posted a record of 21-12 this past year. They played a total of 13 games against teams in PG's 12u national rankings/honorable mention list or ranked in North Carolina. They posted 3 wins over national honorable mention awardee East Coast Snipers (SC), as well as wins over #9 Dirtbags East and #25 Carolina Titans - Ambrose. - Randolph Regulators
The Regulators finished the summer with a 22-9 record this spring/summer and a 31-12-1 record overall. They had a total of 4 wins over ranked teams. The Regulators highlighted their summer with wins over #22 MPC and 3 wins over #23 Athlete's Advantage Yard Goats.
- Wendell Knights
The Wendell Knights posted an overall record of 35-16 this past year. This included a total of 9 games against ranked opponents. They highlighted their summer campaign with a win over #12 Luckies Platinum and 3 wins over #25 West Raleigh Blue. - MPC
MPC posted a record of 17-15-1 this spring/summer and an overall record of 30-21-1 this past year. This might not look like the record of a top 25 until you consider their competition level. MPC played a total of 13 games against national and state-ranked opponents. They had wins over national #13 Dirtbags Black and #23 SBA Futures, as well as wins over #10 CBC Baseball Club mad #15 Carolina Regulators. Of their losses, 4 came against nationally ranked teams with another 4 coming at the hands of teams in our top 25 teams in North Carolina. - Athlete's Advantage Yard Goats
The Yard Goats finished the spring/summer season with a record of 18-9-3, and an overall record of 25-13-3 this past year. They posted 3 wins over ranked teams this past year including wins over #10 CBC Baseball Club, #16 DB Raptors Dubs, and #17 LKN Hurricanes. They also had 9 losses against ranked opponents and a tie against CBC indicating the overall strength of their schedule this past year. - Carolina Titans - Ambrose
The Titans were a late addition to our rankings. But after finishing the year on a 17-1 run, we felt they deserved addition to our rankings. As best we can tell, the Titans finished with an overall record of 24-10 this past year. They had wins over #1 Rawlings Prospects NC, #8 DPC Academy Gold (x2), #20 Randoph Regulators, #21 Wendell Knights, and #25 West Raleigh Blue (x2). They only thing keeping these guys from moving higher was the late charge and a fewer number of games overall, but in the end the Titans probably deserve to be higher on this list. - West Raleigh Blue
West Raleigh finished with a 23-6 mark this summer and an overall mark of 33-11 this past year. They had wins over #19 Five Star Carolina - Nelson (x3) to highlight their season. They also had 7 losses against state or nationally ranked opponents indicating the quality of their schedule.
